Why can't you match the metal to your hood? is that a copper tone? I can't see it very well. No single pendant lights. is there anyway you could add recessed lighting over the cabs and do a single type of pendant over you island? if doing recessed isn't an option (future goals) Then look for 2 semi-flush mount lights with multiple bulbs. you want something that can take 75-100W. (also, adaptable for sloped ceilings) two of these would give you some nice light in there. Well, if you dont want light in your eye clear globes is not the way to go, white milk glass will not glare in someone's eye it would be diffused. I suspect you will need to make a large washer to make them compatible. I bet the nut from the old shade must be just too small to work. I would trace it on something thin you can cut- stiff shirt cardboard or a plastic like an old credit card. Cut it out with scissors good enough and it won’t show.
