Cabot's SPF
Comments (4)All- Wish I had seen this before I did my cedar deck last Fall. I had exactly the same problem. I also sent a sample to Cabot and they said the same thing about wood fibers on the tape pulls. They actually sent me 4 gallons of SPF36 (I had used SPF24) and 2 gallons of their wood cleaner. Not stripper, mind you, just the cleaner. I have been spending hours looking through posts - thank you pressurepros for all of your responses in threads- I will likely be purchasing some of your Ready Seal in the near future... I have (almost) completely stripped my deck with a pressure washer and good hard scrubbing. Next will be to brighten and sand. Almost all of the old Cabot stain came right off with the pressure washer. What was left came off pretty easily if it soaked in water for an hour or so and re-hit it with the pressure washer. There are areas where the Cabot actually worked as it was supposed to- mostly hard spots (around knots, routed corners) and it really looks nice. Too bad 99.9% of the deck stain failed. If you enjoy stripping finishes and watching mold grow beneath your peeling deck stain, Cabot SPF is for you....See Morebrw deck w/ cabots ato gone bad

Comments (2)The "Beading" effect is a TOTALLY meaningless parameter to deck stain quality and wear. The ONLY reason S/T stains bead temporarily, is that the stain is still "at/near the surface" of the wood, and all solvents aren't evaporated-off yet. Just like a waxed car, the effect is only temporary! Surface water doesn't hurt a deck....AT ALL...unless it's soaking for days on end without drainage. Even then, once the wood dries-out, it's fine! THE SUN, followed by surface traffic, is the great destroyer of wood fibers. Simple as that. Faron...See Moremjh5
