make a last minute run to the supermarket to get something for tomorrow?

This past week, we made a trip to Wegman's and got everything for tomorrow's dinner.

Then, about an hour ago, Tom says "why don't you make that cucumber salad for tomorrow, it would go nice with the ham".

Of course, I had no cukes in the refrigerator and was out of mustard seeds.

Off to Giant....

Monica, aren't you in western PA? I didn't know they had Wegman's there. Nice store! My kids shop there all the time, but it's sort of off my beaten path. I like Giant, too.

right off bushes; off of THORNY bushes too. It's a very good thing I went for an Edible garden because these canines eat everything. If I had the Castor Bean plants and the Datura everyone else has here I'd have two dead dogs. There is no accounting for their appetites; also their plantlusts change and what they wanted yesterday they don't want today and the thing I thought was safe suddenly has crescents taken out of it (like my thornless Opuntia...) They have even eaten mature fig leaves and that's like eating sandpaper. And yes, they are well fed.

Wow so many with the same situation, although mine is not because of him losing a job in this economy. I always seemed to find the really nice guys that lacked motivation - I married two of them. My first husband was in finance, and figured that he could work fewer hours and manage to make enough. I was working and had two young children and he did not think that his free time was for housework or watching the kids even when I went to the gym - I had to get a sitter so that he would not have to commit to being home. No matter how much counseling or discussion between us could make him see how it felt to have him sitting on the front porch reading the paper while I was going crazy in the house getting lunches ready and the kids and me out of the house every morning. The neighbors even noticed! I felt if I was going to live like a single parent, I might as well be able to date, so I divorced him. And then I did the same thing again! What the heck was wrong with me?? When I met my second husband, he had a job, but all of his jobs were not long-term or careers -- he was also an under-employed carpenter. He was an awesome person, and a great step-father to my kids, but the housework was not even on his radar. However, with his more "flexible schedule", he was the one that could get a sick kid at school or be home if needed, so he was a bit of a house husband and that allowed me to concentrate on my job. But once the kids were off at college, I joked that he was my oldest child, but it really wasn't a joke. Unfortunately he died suddenly a little over a year ago, and although I miss him terribly, I am not going to make the same mistake again. I'm fortunate that I can support myself as I've been doing it for years anyway. If there is a next guy he will have to be at least where I am financially (which is not much!) and be interested in a true partnership. We all have to put up with stupid bosses and policies, but how can these men think it's OK to put their pride before their employment because they won't tolerate whatever they don't agree with? You can't be an employee and do things any way you want - we all have to suck it up for a job. If these guys didn't have a wife, I wonder what would they do? Please understand, I'm not knocking your hubbies - especially after the men I married! Many of you seem to be adapting to the new normal in your households. What makes it work is a sense of teamwork between the two of you, each doing what needs to be done. A wife can't be the breadwinner and then come home to housework & cooking while the husband plays - that situation won't last long without resentment.

Barb, far as I'm concerned most any sport is worth saving. I'd leave the shoots on the main plant this year to 'beef up' and see what becomes of them next year. I once had a sport on a 'Hyacinthina' that I waited 4 years before I separated it, to make sure it was big enough and had a good enough root system to survive the division trauma. Pieter PS Just did a quick Google search for some pix of 'Midas Mouse' and only pulled up the one in the HL....

I always need something last minute. One year it was eggs for a quiche. I zoomed to the market and there was a guy in his bathrobe also buying something. I imagined his wife got hysterical and sent him out to the store. LOL.

No, I don't have to make a trip to the store. I usually keep lots of stuff on hand for emergency cooking or baking. Sometimes I have to "loan" things that our youngest daughter needs, she is just a half mile away. :)

Just gonna be me, so I stopped by Fresh Market and bought Chicken London. I'll bake it and have asparagas.

I'm from Western Pa., and I wish we had a Wegman's....The Giant you're talking about isn't Giant Eagle, is it? Between them and Walmart, we're over-run....Both in this area are much too expensive so we go to Aldi's.....

We have 2 Wegman's within 30 minutes of here(Downington, Warminster) another one closer opening in October(Collegeville) and another scheduled for next year (Chesterbrook).

No...not Giant Eagle. Just Giant.
We also have a huge Whole Foods opening late this year and a couple of Trader Joe's in the area.
Four Walmart's in the immediate area(within 20 minutes)...2 of them are Super Walmarts.

Not to mention the many Safeways and Albertson's.

Competition is serious in this area.

We had our dinner today. Bought most of what I needed last night, but sure enough--discovered that we were down to our last 1/2" of honey mustard salad dressing--and it's the only dressing DD eats. So sent DH to the store early this morning to pick up another bottle.

Know what you mean about competition. As you know, I'm just on the other side of the river. Within about 5 miles of my house, I've got 3 Acmes (Albertson's), a Superfresh, Thriftway, ShopRight, Genuardi's (Safeway) and everyone's favorite--Wegman's. Those are just the 'big' stores. Can't begin to count the little deli's, 7-11's, WaWa's, meat shops, pasta shops, bakeries, etc. Nice to have choices, though! It's so weird in the country, only stores we have there are a couple of ShopRites and one Acme. Oh, and a WM supercenter.

LOL...I just sent my hubby to the store to get Pop for the grandkids, and a loaf of Rye bread.

I have to go in the early morning..Need refried beans for a "bake". I could have gone tonight, but I've got most things done already..so a quick pop into the store for a few cans of beans will be easy.

I have a gazillion Giants each with- in five minutes of my house. We shop at the largest w/ cart scanners. All we do is scan each item , bag as we go, and then it's totaled at the end and we're out of there. I also love the huge Wegman's which has been here over a year. I go there every Wed night. We are not lacking grocery stores in this area.
