Just saw his. Coverage on tv. I am waiting to hear the cause and trying to not think the worst. Tragic, but at least no deaths so far.

My daughter just finished the Boston Marathon at 3: 36 and heard two explosions as they were leaving the area. All the many runners behind her, I guess, were stopped. This is insane.

My niece's husband ran the marathon...waiting to hear back from her via facebook. My brother and SIL were there supporting Dan. Hoping they're all safe!

Oh no! I hope your family and friends are safe. Let us know. The injuries are horrible. Truly insane.

My daughter crossed the finish line mere minutes before the explosion and is on her way home now, But she can't get in touch with other runners she knows. She's a basket case.

Prayers for all.

Explosion was at 4:09. Lily, your daughter was so close! Thank God she is okay.

I saw a report that the explosion was a 2:45 Eastern time.

News just reported 2 dead and 22 injured.

No, that was the time of the race -- what the "stopwatch" said.

Two deaths so far. Heartbreaking.

The time I gave was my daughters time in the race , (3:36) not the actual clock time. She's on her way home. Her son and husband were standing right near the trash cans waiting for her to cross the line. They were a few blocks away when they heard the explosions and didn't know what it was. She frantically from her car tried to call her friends in the race. One crossed 30 seconds before and was shaken up. She can't get hold of the others. This is a nightmare.

so happy for you Lily

it's a terrible thing

I fervently hope her friends are okay. Let us know.

Two dead and many suffered amputation of their limbs by the bombs according to the news. Police suspended cell phone coverage in the area. At least one other bomb was found, unexploded. No one has claimed responsibility AFAIK. I'm posting at 6 p.m. eastern time.

My family members are safe! They're currently trying to find a way back to their hotel. Cell phone service is very spotty because they were instructed to stay away from windows. Glad your daughter is ok, too, Lily.

A child was killed. This is getting sadder by the moment. I hope whoever did this is caught quickly and punished severely.

Thanks for your kind comments. We are still shaken up as SIL and grandson were standing in front of those cans waiting for her to cross the finish line minutes before. When she did they hurried to get out of town to drive back to PA, didn't want to get in rush hour. A block away they heard the first bomb and SIL said it sounded like a bomb but no one was reacting. People kept walking. It was only when they reached their car that her phone rang, and it was her brother telling her about what was happening a few blocks away. She did reach one of her friends who crossed 30 seconds before the blast. He was knocked down but unhurt.

My niece was in Boston with her friend's family to watch the marathon. They were right where the second blast happened, at a party in the building. (Everyone there got out all right.) Thank God, after the elite runners finished, her friend's father decided to take the kids to the Swan Boats in the Public Garden. Which means they walked right past the scene of the first blast to get there.

I'm thanking God that they left when they did and were 1/2 a mile away when the blasts occurred. And so devastated for those who weren't so lucky. I couldn't rest until she got home.

And I'm glad all your loved ones are safe.

The latest news websites I've seen say that 12 are dead and police have a Saudi Arabian man in custody.

Boston channels are reporting still two confirmed dead. an 8 year old boy was one.124 people are in the hospitals here, 8 to be specific are treating the victims..and 10 amputations have bee n done so far. They are expecting more deaths, due to the extent of the injuries.

"The latest news websites I've seen say that 12 are dead and police have a Saudi Arabian man in custody."

Yet the people in the know (like the Boston police chief) say otherwise, on live TV right now.

Three dead and 130 some injured with a lot of amputations. Since my daughter has run in 11 marathons , they never hang around the crowd after she finishes because they know the traffic will be a nightmare. I'm so glad they did get out quickly because I think soon they weren't letting people go and putting them in hotels so they could look at their cell phone videos.

Just saw on Boston TV,,,8 year old that was killed yesterday at the marathon has a sister who had to have a leg amputated, and their Mom is in grave condition after undergoing emergency brain surgery.

Such a heartbreaking tragedy, especially the 8 yr.old. I hope and pray the perpetrator(s) are brought to swift and harsh justice. Btw, it was the New York Post website that said there were 12 dead. I don't know how reliable they are though.

"Reliable " and the Post cannot be used in the same sentence.!

I live just outside Boston so the news here is first hand,,There are 3 dead.

Was Monday a holiday in Boston? The marathon was held on a Monday - perhaps more would have been killed if schools were out and more people would have off work. I am sickened by all of this... Prayers to all involved.

Media reports that federal law enforcement is always leary of this time of year. Waco and the Oklahoma Federal Building bombing were in April -- both concerned anti-government protests.

Yesterday celebrated a Massachusetts holiday, Patriots' Day, honoring Colonials who fired on British forces at the beginning of the American Revolution. This 26-mile marathon included a memorial to the 26 killed at Sandy Hook.

The bombs may turn out to be linked to home-grown anti-government movements. Let's not assume that -- or that the attack came from abroad either. We have to wait for more information.

According to our newspaper: A local resident finished Monday's Boston Marathon no more than 10 minutes before a pair of explosions shook the downtown.

I don't know him.

Such a tragedy. for all those involved.

Granddaughter and her boyfriend had been to Fenway and we were worried about where they were...thankfully they had left for home. Friends of ours from Boston run the Marathon every year and we were on pins and needles till we got the email saying they had already crossed the finish line when it happened....Thank God....So sorry for those who were killed and injured and their families...and just those involved...

Unbelievable shock, prayers to all the injured and families of those involved. It's Tuesday, no more bombs were found and there's no suspects or persons of interest. Hope the culprits are caught soon.
