I havent used it yet,I do have a few test boards sitting out at the shop with a couple of coats twp rustic on them its been a few moons and the finish looks about the same as ipe would.John

I have sold it to several customers. I am installing Tigerwood TG on my own front porch with in the next few weeks. It is a stable, solid wood to use for both indoor and outdoor use.

I have not used either IPE or TigreDeck as of yet, was sold on IPE for my home deck project, but now am considering the use of TigerDeck. It looks like it may be a little easier to install, but more importantly, it looks and feels like it may hold TWP better and possibly hold the stain a little longer? I am not sure if that is true, or if it is just the fact that it has been kiln dried to 8% that gives me that impression.

I like the look of both, but for some reason the IPE looks richer in color and feel.

After searching the web, I cannot find any forums that have members that are working with TigerDeck on a regular basis. Is this that new of a product that is being marketed? I thought this stuff had been around for 4-5 years. I hate to use something that does not have a track record, especially considering the time I will have in the project.

Tigerwood has a long history but primarily as a flooring product. You will not have a problem with it. call me when you have the time and we can discuss the merits vs the negs

Tigerwood, which is actually muracatiaia is an excellent wood. Here in Brazil it is used a lot for solid wood furniture as well. The wood is smoother grained than ipe and somewhat lighter. The people that import it to the States kiln dry the lumber down to 8 percent as you state and I would not worry about it's durability and stability. It has a beautiful redish color streaked with darker colors giving it the tiger like appearance. As a Brazilian lumber producer I am very happy to see anyone use wood species other than ipe as it increases the productivity of the forest.

I have personally used tigerwood a few projects, all with happy customers. I now sell it at AWDS, no complaints here either, you will not be unhappy with tigerwood.

It is very intersting material,I love the grain and color differance,its just real hard for me to make a jump like that from ipe, but hmmmm mabey,,,Al its working ok for you like 2 years or so? J

Thanks for the feedback. I picked up a couple of pieces and put some different stains on each, and my wife and I are very pleased with the look. It looks like we will be switching over to TigerDeck for our project and give it shot.

I am going to use the stuff to make kichen cabinets for my house. And, I am also going to make a mission style sofa out of it. It is great wood for cabinetry and furniture. It sands great and takes an oil finish real well. It is beautiful wood.

How does the Tigerwood price compare to IPE? More, less, or about the same.

Unsure on the price of Tiger Mike. I have not called yet to get a quote for my project. I am assuming that it will be less or similar to IPE, or at least I hope.

My head is spinning! Ipe? Tigerwood? Procell? We need maintenance-free yet inexpensive and easy to install as we will attempt to do it ourselves. I was sold on Procell until I saw the price. I then decided on Ipe but am worried about installation and the warping/splintering I have read about. Don't know anything about Tigerwood; will I need to stain it or can I let it go like I would Ipe? HELP!!!

Right-o John, no such thing as 'maintenance-free" but here is more about the maintenance of TigerDeck specifically.
