Has anyone built with Diyanni Homes in Columbus, OH?
Comments (45)We started our build with Diyanni March 2021, framing good went well, drywall installation went well too We started seeing problems with our skill trades/sub contractors. Our color selection was wrong (inverted), when I attempted to ask them the response was, well you looked at the color sheet and there is nothing we can do about it. The estimated time to move in was so far off (we were told the house would be completed somewhere between the 2nd week to the end of September) so with that estimate, we sold our home and then paid the increase in price after signing the original contract agreement (YES, the price increase 15K after we begun construction), and we opted to stay in a rental for the month. The month turned into 2.5 months and we didn’t get the keys to the house until october 31. And even then we recieved a temporary permit. It was a complete and utter mess. The plumbers didn’t hook up our suppump and our basement took in water and the electrician( nice guy) has been the hardest to get a hold of to complete the extra’s we paid him for. So while new construction will have it’s share of problems, when you are dealing with sub contractors that you don’t get a chance to vett, there is little accountablity without your PM or the people who hired them keeping watch that the product is done correctly. So a word of caution for ANY builder who doesn’t do everything themselves with employees. I will add that we also had Jeff H on our project and while he was very busy, and he dropped the ball sometimes, he did try his best to recetify things. Was he the best ever, no…but he did try to have empathy and just flat out told us some of our issues were due to COVID, material shortage and just finding people who will work. I would hire Jeff again, but I would make sure to stay in constant communication as he doesn’t like buildertrend, which I use to document every issues in case of legal ramifications....See MoreVinyl: Has anyone built a Vinyl Home?
Comments (13)We didn't build our home but for the past fifteen years have lived in a brick front, vinyl sided home. Last May we suffered a considerable amount of hail damage resulting in an insurance claim for new siding, roof, windows, etc. We were unhappy with the current selection of vinyl available. Finally we found a product called Royal Building Products out of Canada that we are going with. It is several "mils" thicker than any vinyl made in the United States. My insurance has to upgrade me to this type of vinyl because the stuff I had on my home is better than the stuff made in America today. You will hear great things about Hardy and Certinteed, but they are extremely expensive. One of my neighbors had Hardy and didn't need replacement. But heck, my insurance man is paying for the replacement so I'm glad I didn't have to set out that additional money to begin with. Back to the Royal Building Products; we chose it for its strength. We could not bend the sample into a tube shape which we could do with every other sample we got before this line. There is no need to go with a "grain" type product. The manufacturers put the phoney grain lines in to hide imperfections in their product. If you stand five feet back from any grained product you cannot see the grain lines anyway. Here is a link that might be useful: Royal Building Products...See MoreHas Anyone Built this home Avington Place by John Tee?
Comments (3)There's very little I do like here. All the rooms are too small and some made smaller with inswing French doors. Not enough windows. Outside walls wasted on closets. "Furniture showroom" LR and DR. Master suite access to *both* closets via the bathroom. Shallow porch. I'll stop here....See MoreHas anyone built the Mitchell Ginn Ellenton Place house plan
Comments (357)Hello everyone, looks like we have fallen in love with this design as well. We went through a new custom build back in the summer (2022) in Perry, GA (and that job transfer fell through so purchase didn’t work out) of this home. We thought it was a true one-off custom until finally found that this home was in fact buildable and ran across the plans for it on Southern Living/Ginn. Anyways, like most on here, I would love a photo dump to us if possible, as well as plan changes that you made for ideas, ccovert@zfgoffroad.com, I truly appreciate any sharing! I know I just started following two Instagram builds from a couple very helpful folks on here too (beautiful homes!), and appreciate the insights shared so far! One question, on the second floor, did anyone finish a third bed/bath from the spaces that the stock plans show? If so, would you mind sharing that and how it turned out?...See MoreHolly Stockley
