My new countertops!!! Let me show you (a sneak peak of) them!!!

I want to thank everyone on this forum for advice over the last year or two. This is such a helpful website and y'all are the best!

We had our new counters installed Friday and are very excited! This is part one of a "facelift" for a very busy working kitchen used by a team of winos, chefs and wanna-be chefs :)

Here is the new island. It is soapstone, though no one in these parts knows exactly what kind (I'm guessing Santa Rita Venata as it has some green to it, but I'm not 100% positive).

Wow!! I love Rhino Hide and didn't think you could top that plant, but you have some outstanding plants there. I would love to see the whole Regal Splendor sport plant. I like them all. I think manyhosta nailed the name for the seedling. Alligator Hide is a great suggestion.

The day has come and gone and installation finished late this afternoon. I wanted to check-in with the outcome. The guys were very nice -- which made it harder. I stayed out of the way mostly but could see problems. I'm happy with the marble itself but the craftsmanship is not there. Does anyone ever have a satisfactory install? I felt so sick after they left that I could not do a thorough inspection. I'll do it in the morning in natural light. One of the guys started applying epoxy as soon as they plopped the island down. I heeded advice and was nearby sitting on the stairs but not too close so they could do their job. They did not offer any info on what was going on. When they were done I asked about that spot (as no one offered any info about it) and asked if they chipped it during the install and he said, no, it was done during fabrication. So I have at least one chip, a problematic seam with a chip, an out of square island, and an out of square sink reveal. So weary from this DIY and so hoped this would go well. Very depressed right now. I'll start a new thread tomorrow with the details. I'll definitely need guidance.

I haven't seen that granite in person, but wow yours is so glossy and beautiful. Love the way it looks with your cabinets; the peninsula looks soooo pretty. Don't like the marble BS with your granite. Agree with palimpsest that the scale and pattern of the movement is too similar to that in your granite. They'll end up fighting rather than complementing each other. Of the glass I like the one in the middle. More neutral than the others and looks to go very well with the color of the floors. I don't think it's stark. The subway is a great shape that melds with the traditional ( transitional?) style of your cabs, but the glass has a modern feel and goes well with your fabulously glossly granite which is the star in that kitchen. Keep it simple. BTW, no matter what the backsplash or what the GC says, no No NO to the 4" granite BS! If you have more of the glass tile, yes please post a picture with several in place so we can see how it looks and please show us whatever else you find!

Well, now that I'm a day late and a dollar short....read it all. Love furniture, fireplace not so much (get rid of that black scroll - it's too much for the brick) also all that brick is throwing me off. You had one idea with the wood surround on the brick, it was medium color wood and it softened the brick also with the mantel. Love 2nd picture for over mantel, very pretty. Love the lamps with some gold in them but not the shade, just doesn't go. The busy metals I would say is a no in the lamps, personally I am not fond of that look in there. Rug looks like a nice size, I think smaller isn't a good choice. I even like the colors, they are calm. It is a very comfortable room, may I come and sit a spell? Tables,I don't have a clue on them. You're coming along and I think it's good when you can look through other's eyes.....others pick up on things that you yourself never even thought of. I think we are very fortunate that we have so many wonderful designers here that give so willingly of their time to help out with ideas. I believe they get a round of applause.

Isn't it awesome to play with the stone? I have so much fun looking at our soapstone and watching the colors morph. Your island is incredibly beautiful!

remodelfla: I *do* love playing with it, it looks so pretty either unoiled or oiled. I am so grateful for all of the information that you smart, generous people gave me before I took the plunge.

It feels really nice, too! My husband told me Friday night that my romance with the counter was making him jealous :D

Oooohhhh so pretty.

We just put a deposit on Santa Rita Venata on Friday...love seeing it in your kitchen!!! The photos I took came out very pale so seeing yours makes me smile, as I'm sure it'll make you smile every day too!!!
