At 32k you're on the higher side of pool volume. Ideally, you should be plumbing 2.5 in suction and have at least 4 returns. 2.5 back to the pool would be awesome. Rarely do you see it though. Is there a spa? You would need to know the number of jets, etc.

If you shot for a 6 hour turnover, you're needing a pump at almost 90gpm and 2" will not do it. Ideally, you'll want a slower turn and can be safe with any 2HP two speed at a minimum. Variable will work but you're on the higher side of water volume for my tastes. I like them for 25k and under. At 32k the two speed will do much better or a 4-speed would be a nice option if you have other flow requirements such as a sweep or waterfall.

Yeah, I figured it as an el, 12X36 at 3' deep and 18X24 at 5' deep. He said the 18X12 was at the shallow end so I assumed a lot as 3' depth. Big assumption, I guess, but I get 25K or so.

Is the extension a big tanning ledge,or a 3ft. section?

A return line every 15ft. would be code for a commercial pool in my neck of the woods.I wouls say at least 4 returns,two skimmers,dual main drains(t'eed together).Plumb the suction lines in 2" to a 2"x2.5" Jandy 3-way Neverlube at the pump and plumb from the Jandy valve to the pump in 2.5" plumbing.You will need a pump that also has a 2.5" fitting,such as a Jandy Stealth or MHP,Hayward Northstar,etc.If your equipment set is below, at or only a foot above the water line,you could use a medium head pressure pump such as a Jandy MHP.If you are installing a spa,or the equipment set is a lot higher than the water line,you will need to use a high head pump,such as the Stealth,Northstar or Speck.

My pool is rectangular 18 X 36, with a kiddie pool extensinsion that continues as a rectangle 8 X 12.the pool( I had put 18X12 by mistake earlier.) is a gunite pool, goes from 3' deep to 7' deep.

My question was how many gallons does the pool hold(I'm guessing 25,000.also how many returns should I have, and how many skimmers? also how many HP should my filter pump need to be.

My last question I've been sweeping my pool twice a day for almost 2 weeks now, as the builder has reccomended due to the plaster, which is a 3M product carribean blue. My problem is that the PH is very high over 8. I have been using Bioguard PH decreaser for the last few days but the PH is still high, do you have any sugestions? or does this take time because of the new plaster?

Hopefully you got the majority of the creme brushed off before your PH shot up so much. Typically you want a below-normal PH for the 1st 2 weeks to help with the brushing. If you have a waterfall, don't run it for a while (aeration increases PH). Add muriatic acid to bring the PH down. Acid sinks, so after you add it brush the area so you don't get an impromptu acid wash of one spot at the bottom of the pool. In my pool a cup of acid brings the PH down about 0.2 (mine is 12k gallons). I don't add more than 2 cups in 24 hours, if it needs more I wait and test it again in 24 hours, then add more. It needed a lot of acid in the first 2 weeks, but has needed very little since then.

25k sounds about right assuming your kiddie area is around 2' deep (I calculate 25,673 gallons).
