Looks like craftsman style to me, related to mission style.

This was a single story house that had an poorly-designed addtion/remodeling on top. You are unlikely to be able to balance it. Good balance usually has smaller windows on top, to make it look less top-heavy. I wouldn't remove the storm door. It's probably providing weather protection. You can paint it the same color as the door, so it's less noticeable. If the portico is off-center, then you want to avoid symmetrical landscaping. We can't see much of the yard, but a biggish tree in the right front yard will draw attention away from assymetry.

I am not sure how modern you can go but removing the shutters would bea first step. The railing for that portico can be a much simpler black metal and glass and the posts also simple black metal. That would for sure modernize the look and then a new front door in a modern style not MCM just modernso really that whole portico black no arch above the front door either then the house will have a more modern look. Then landscaping that is where you will get huge bang for your buck.I would think along these lines for that .

I can see why Beverly posted pictures of flat roofed porticos, but I don't see why you couldn't have a small peak as well. Your house looks like houses in the Philly suburbs. Plenty of them have peaked roofs over the front door. I'm actually surprised your house doesn't have one already. The current stoop is probably not deep enough for a nice portico and you have to be able to set footers for the posts, so that will probably have to be redone as part of this project. The first picture I'm posting has double pillars like your side porch has. You could do without the dentil molding under the roofline. Choose a front door and see what the manufacturer's color options are. Factory finishes are best for longevity. Since you have blue siding, look at blues for the front door. I used to have a stone front center hall colonial. The previous owners had painted the front door a dark purple which looked surprisingly good. It just wasn't my taste. It was dark green while we lived there and when we sold the house the buyers painted it red. You don't need the shutters on the triple window to the left of the door. You might think about painting the other shutters when you change the door.
