Question about serving food at a party

We are having a college graduation party for my daughter at our house next month. The party will be from 2 to 8 pm, the food is being brought in by a restaurant. I thought I'd have them come in a little before 3 pm and we'd start serving food at 3. This will be a mostly outside party (weather permitting), but the food will be set up inside.

So here's my first questions. Would you have the food ready as the guests start arriving at 2:00 instead? I'm thinking that would make people feel more rushed. Does it make it awkward to have people bringing food in the house as the party is going? The food being served will be pasta, salad and bread. Probably less than 10 minutes to set up.

If I do serve the food at 3 pm does it sound okay to put 'Food served starting at 3 pm' on the invites? I don't want people showing up at 2:00 thinking there isn't any food.. and I don't want people showing up at 6:00 thinking they're going to have a big selection.

Thanks!
