Cactus, You do have quite the cactus collection there (I can see the reason for your name)! I unfortunately cannot answer your question about your Alg cuttings, I've never tried growing them from cuttings before. I took pictures of the rest of my plants (if you were interested in seeing mine). Some pictures are a little... soft looking, the outdoor lighting wasn't working with me. I don't have as many plants as I used to. I had quite the collection of cacti myself, but thanks to all that rain we got, I lost all but two. Thanks for looking at my pictures! Request help for my pygmy date palm
Q

Is that snow on the ground! In any case, your palm is being stunted by the Winter cold. The pygmy date is one of the more tropical species of Phoenix (date) palms--other species (P. canariensis for example) show greater cold tolerance. Your palm would soon grow out of this stunted growth and revert to a normal growth rate/pattern BUT as you say, it will go through another setback with the coming winter. Frankly, I would grow it as a containerized palm and just Winter protect it somewhere (house or garage). The condition you described happened last year to my pygmy date. It suffered two Winters ago as a containerized palm in the garage. It showed stunted, slow abnormal growth last Summer. This Spring it grew out of it and grew like crazy and a few weeks ago it flowered. In its place I would suggest you plant a cold hardier palm. Here are some suggestions: Trachycarpus (Windmill palms), Sabal louisiana, Butia capitata (Pindo palm), Rhaphidophyllum (Needle palms), or Chamaerops humilis (Mediterranean fan).

Marigene, I'll never go back to commercial sausage again, homemade is just too good and too easy. This is a "sweet" italian type, made from an old recipe from the Italian gentleman Elery worked for when he was a teenager in Monroe (near Detroit). Shelley, my recipe (as Jim once said) starts with "first, grow a pig". LOL No, really, it's easy. Take about 10 pounds of pork (we used a combo of pork roast, chops and butt) and grind it up. Leave the fat on, or your sausage will be dry. Get a 5 pound chuck or whatever roast is cheapest and trim the fat off that. Grind it up and mix it with the pork. (These measures are all approximate depending on taste) Add 3 tablespoons of kosher salt and one of black pepper, 1/3 cup of fennel seed (Elery thought it was too much but I love fennel), a tablespoon of tarragon, 8 ounces of Asiago cheese, grated finely and a cup of sweet white Moscato wine. Mix everything up and fry a bit of it as a sample. If you like it, eat it. If not, adjust seasonings and try it again. This can be frozen in bulk, in patties or stuffed into links, your choice. I did whirl the fennel in the food processor to bruise them up but frankly, I don't think it did much, LOL. Annie

Again thank you for your kind words. The houses in this area are mostly made of styrofom cubes. But In iceland houses are before 2000 concret build and quite a few are timber framed. Many have started to tile them on the outside as we live in a wet climate it is very insulating and you never have to do anything after you tile. Here are two more photos on of the front of the house. Note we still dont have the banister on the balcony. It is to be glass and that is so expencive and makes no difference for us that it is not on yet. And then there is one of my precious Hugo. This post was edited by ice1 on Wed, Aug 7, 13 at 7:59
