brand or mfr's name on faucet stopper piece

I tried to search for this thread but got too many results and gave up. Some of our bathroom faucets have been installed and I noticed that, not only did the hot and cold water handles say "hot" and "cold," but the stopper has "Grohe" written on it. The Grohe website does not show these details--nor is there even a place to write hot or cold on the lever handles.

Maybe I'm alone on this, but I don't like the manufacturer's name on my faucets or my sinks! (But I feel that way about handbags too.) Anyone know how hard it is to change them out to polished chrome, especially the stopper piece?

Umm, you could buy an off the shelf stopper and replace the original.

One of the reasons the manufacturer's name is on it is that in 30 years, after the house has been sold several times, and the faucet needs maintenance, the owner will know where to look for parts. I've been annoyed more than once when I've had to repair plumbing and ther was no trace of the brand. I draw the line at paying for expensive clothes that turn me into a walking billboard for the manufacturer, but I don't mind stuff like this as long as the name of the plumbing fixture's manufacturer isn't illuminated by lasers...

Only the high high end faucets don't use plastic. I have 3 Hansgrohes, all stainless, and there is plastic in them under the stainless. Solid brass faucets are still made by English firms. Barber Wilsons is tops. Samuel Heath is tops. Those are English style and modern and you might look on their websites. Dornbracht is a modern line of solid brass faucets. Rohl has many solid brass faucets -- check carefully. Waterworks should be all brass -- check. The rule of thumb is the heavier the faucet the better (because brass is heavy). Moen is a very reliable, good brand but any brand that is inexpensive has plastic. Kohler should be checked. It's also an excellent, reliable brand as is their higher end Kallista line. There's nothing wrong with any of the brands mentioned above and nothing wrong with plastic in the faucets unless you don't want it and are willing to spend the money not to have it. Which means you are basically in the $600-800 range for a sink faucet and in the high end range for shower components as well.

I have a Grohe faucet, and a Lacava sink. The sink requires a larger 2" (European) drain, so I didn't get a Grohe drain. I got one from Lacava. The sink has a small name on it, the faucet has a small name on it but the click-clack drain doesn't. Good thing, as I don't like all these prominent names on every piece of hardware I buy. They make those click-clack drains in normal size too. You push on it to close it, and push again to open it. At first I balked at putting my hands in the water to open the drain, but then, come to think of it, if I'm washing delicates, or my hair my hands are already IN the water. No big deal. -Babka

Delta faucets/tub sets- what the heck?

I have had Delta in the past and am 100% happy with them. I currently have a 12 year old Delta Venetian kitchen faucet that is rock solid. Decided to go with Delta for my husband's bathroom remodel. I bought the same model number that is on their website. Bought from an on line plumbing store. The faucet it's self is heavy and solid. Two things I'm not happy with. The water flow...and that's after I had my plumber remove some funky shaped water restricter. It didn't make a of difference and he was about to remove the other one when my husband said that was fine. The water out of my Jado sink faucet in my bathroom comes out like a garden hose and I love it!. I'm sure its all in the name of water conservation but I'm not happy withe small water stream from the Delta faucet. The other thing is the drain stopper. The metal (plastic) disk that actually stops up the sink is flimsy and PLASTIC! I called to tell them I didn't care for it and would like to have (buy if I had to) one made of metal. They don't have one. They're ALL plastic :o I couldn't beleive my ears! I had planned on using a true (metal) popup but everything happened so fast and it was a two week wait for the popup so I just let him use what came with it. Does it hold water? Yes it does. I tested it. But I'd like for it to look nicer and not tilt slightly to one side. I wonder if Delta is going downhill :( They still have life time warranty on their faucets, including the finish

We used Rohl’s Perrin & Rowe lineup in our bathroom reno and couldn’t be happier. Exposed thermostatic shower system, sink faucet and tub filler for claw foot tub and a whole host of accessories. The quality is tangible. We had a minor issue with the diverter valve in the shower (it worked, but it didn’t feel smooth) which Vintage Tub & Bath replaced, no questions asked. Fortunately it was an easy fix on the exposed shower (a few unions). And Rohl’s polished nickel finish is exquisite Now were doing our kitchen and another bathroom and we keep going back to Rohl. We’ve found few options which tickle our fancy and the ones we have, (Lefroy Brooks, Graff, etc.) we’re unsure of the quality. Being a car guy, I like car analogies: A Lexus LS460 is in the same class and possesses most of the same features as a Mercedes S550, BMW 7-Series or Audi A8, and may even give you less problems than the German marques, but a Lexus will never have that same “carved from billet” feel.

That is a pretty good reason to keep it there--I just wish it were a little less obvious. Thanks for the responses.

One of the great things about this America we live in is that you can have anything you want. So, if the brand name on the fixture piece is sticking in your craw, you can have a customizing shop remove it.

It might be worth mentioning that the reason it is so well-accepted is that name Grohe is something of a status symbol. Some people are impressed by their reputation for high-end plumbing fixtures.

But, I certainly sympathize with you. I was first made aware of this when I realized that car dealers would attach their own logo to the vehicle before it was offered for sale. The problem seems to solve itself, when the dealer-logo falls off after a few years of exposure to salt Â either road salt or sea salt. Take your pick.

Anyhow. For every Âanti-Â there is an aficionado. After a few years of service, the stopper will move a bit. And the brand name will be mis-read as "He Gro." IÂd give a fortune to see that in the bottom of my sink every morning.
