Scott, I was out looking at the pool...again a novice, but I see two return lines coming out of the booster pump. So i'm assuming one is at each end? So I'm thinking i'll be fine with the standard 20' hose that comes with the Polaris 280? Do you think I should spend the extra money for the tanktrax ?

Hi, I have a Polaris booster pump running a 280. While discussing about replacing pump at Leslie's, the store manager said one option was to downsize the man pump but don't go to low (no less than 3/4hp) for when the booster pump (3/4hp) comes on, it may cause the main pump to run dry. Anyway, I went with the Intelliflo VF. It was nice since it was running at a low rate (30gpm... haven't fully adjust it yet), and nicely quieter, although programming still needs some getting used to. (I'm a software guy and I dislike their menu system!... that's besides the point). Now the question, how do I program for the booster pump to come on? If the Leslie guy is correct, then it seems that at such a low rate, the booster pump may run the Intelliflo dry, which is terrible thing to happen. Should it be programmed on another feature to come on at a higher rate when the booster pump comes on? At what rate should it be runned at? Also, at the higher rate, wouldn't the psi be somewhat higher, so that the Intelliflo might think that a backwash is needed when it is sufficiently dirty and booster pump running?

Thanks to you both for your feedback.. I am now going to go this route and the bit of inconvenience with a short hose is no worse that a robot with it's plug, caddy and hose! Agreed on the black HD garden hose.. I too bought some at sears ~14 years ago and they are still good! I was going with the TankTrax version of the 280 because my pool is vinyl - do you have an opinion on that or does it really matter much over the wheeled version? Thanks again, Ray

brandon4589, I've never tried this, however, I'm sure it will not perform properly because the 280, 380, and 480 all operate based on high pressure(booster pump) while the 360 operates on flow(GPM). You should be able to make the 360 work by using a 3-way valve. If you are trying to run the spa, waterfall, and cleaner at the same time you will be out of luck.
