Have you cut holes in your mirror for outlets?
Comments (7)It can be done by a glass company. We were going to do this and the place where we were going to get our custom mirror from would have cut 2 outlets into the mirror. I decided to not go through with this and had our contractor move an outlet to a side wall. (I was never happy with where he put the outlets - just came home one day and they were there. I learned to be more specific on a few things for the next remodel!) So now we only have 1 side outlet rather than 2 in front of the sinks but my husband and I don't use the bathroom at the same time so it is not a problem for us, but might be a problem for others. (Should the next buyer of our house need more outlets, the nonfunctional cutouts are hidden under the mirror!)...See Moreoutlets in pantry
Comments (25)"... is there code restricting them from being placed in closets or pantries (of any size)?" Closets (including walk in clothes closets) have strict rules about the locations of outlets (and outlets covers receptacles and light). Any place that equipment is connected (or can be connected) to the permanent wiring is an outlet. A receptacle is one kind kind of outlet, a permanent light fixture is another. Cord and plug connected loads connect to a receptacle outlet. Where a hard wired load connects to the permanent wiring is an outlet. Panties are not covered under the clothes closet rules. Food is not considered as much of a fire risk as cloth. The clothes closet rules are VERY strict. The AHJ is not very likely to believe you are not going to use a closet in a mud room to store clothes (like jackets) and is liable to enforce the clothes closet rules as much as they can....See MoreElectrical outlets on island - plugmold? What do you have?
Comments (12)We have an 8' island with a small prep sink at one end. We had an outlet installed near the prep sink but I tend to use it rarely. All my large appliances go on our other countertops (which I have plenty of) so that the island is for cutting etc. I do use the hand mixer or stand mixer on the island if needed but that is rare for me. What we wish we had done and may actually do at some point is put some outlets on the other side because like someone else said we use our laptops here at the island all the time. In fact right now mine is beeping at me that the battery is low and I am not thrilled about draping the cord across the top of the island just to be plugged in. in terms of looks we didn't do anything to hide the outlet we have, but it's on a side of the island that guests wouldn't see so it's not that 'visible'. The cover is colored similar to our cabinet stain so I never notice it. If we had outlets on the other side, since we have stools there I'm sure it would never be noticed at all....See Moredo you have a can of ocean spray cranberry sauce in your pantry?
Comments (13)My hackles went up increasingly as I read this thread. It is so annoying when they decrease the size of items, it messes up my recipes (and if the Breyer's ice cream box gets any smaller, they may as well sell it in single-serving containers). I wish they'd just leave the size/amount alone and simply raise the price when they want to implement price increases!! But even worse, they put HFCS in everything these days. And with cranberries, it's not like you can make it from scratch every time, as fresh cranberries are not available year-round....See Morefarmhousebound
