I have two. I was originally going to put my old MW in the pantry for use when we needed 2, but it turned out it was too big to fit and still leave room to move around. (We donated it instead.)

Now, one of the outlets is used to power our landline phone/answering machine and recharge my cell phone in our Message Center Niche (the latter is on a toggle switch so I can switch it off when not in use). We also have a phone outlet there. The niche is recessed into one wall of the pantry so we drilled a hole in the back of the niche and snaked the cords through.

The other is there in case we ever need it.

We have outlets on each end. Our microwave is located at one end and a little toaster oven at the other. We also located one up high as I have a vintage electric clock mounted on top of pantry and another at the other end facing different room that both plug into (DH drilled a whole for the wires to go through and then plug in, leaving the wires hidden). We will also use one for a charging station for a dust buster.

In the below picture (please forgive the mess, construction still on-going when picture taken), you can see the clock mounted above the doors--outlets would be to the right and left when opening the doors above the middle shelf. Fortunately, DH figured outlets as we were building and pretty much thought of everything.

We will have one. We have a 36" wide, 24" deep space that will have a counter and 24" shelves/ROTS below (no doors) and 12" shelves 18" above the counter. We will use it for things like the bread machine and crock pot. I don't know if you'd feel comfortable using those hot things in an enclosed space (ours is a walk-through), but why not put one or two in while the electricians are there. It won't hurt. The charging station is a great idea.

Yes--ours is in an old closet-behind-the-fridge area, which we converted to a pantry with a pocket door. We put in an outlet, and my DH used it as his recharging station right away. Then he kept forgetting his phone...so now he recharges it in plain sight. But I am thinking that someday, when we move the OTR MW into that space, we'll get a hood instead. So I'm happy we have an outlet in there now, although we aren't using it much.

I'm getting some heeby jeebies here! I wouldn't put any kind of cooking appliance that doesn't have a timed off in a room where people aren't continuously there. Lots of people have microwaves in their pantries, but those turn themselves off. A crockpot wouldn't be as bad as some things, since it's meant to run without attention, but if it's out on the kitchen counter, you'll walk in, and even if you've forgotten all about it you'll say, "The crock pot!!" and take care of it.

Forgetting an appliance that's running is very easy--with more consequences than Donnkay's husband's missing phone. It's so easy to have a minor emergency, like a kid who falls and needs three stitches, that drives all thought of the whatever on in the pantry away, for it to be safe. Especially, if there aren't good, heat proof counters and backsplash like in the main kitchen.

If you're going to cook, or anything like it, in an out of the way area, it would be worth putting in some kind of interrupt--even a basic timer switch--that can prevent the unexpected from turning tragic.

No reason not to have outlets though! Just be careful of how you use them.

Yes. My 'pantry' is 36"deep, 80"wide. So I put a small 5cuft freezer in it.

You sit and work at your computer, becoming engrossed with what you're doing, and totally and completely forget that anything else is on the stove.

Luckily, the stove is a pretty open place. So when I went back to the kitchen for tea or water or something, OMG! I saw the flame and ran to turn it off.

What if it had been a toaster ove n in the pantry?

In the same vein, I know somebody who had people over for lunch to show off her new kitchen. She put a pot of coffee on, and suggested a walk around the pond until the coffee was down. The coffee pot shorted or something--not that uncommon--and completely burned out her new kitchen. Charcoal. Cinders. Smell. Fractured granite on the floor. A black hole where a kitchen was.

So, yes: You are absolutely right. It's easy enough to start a fire with an appliance right in the main kitchen. So be especially careful what you use an outlet in a pantry to run an appliance where you can't see it.

Freez ers, fridges, and--I don't know why this idea excites me so much, it's not cold fusion, but it does--recharging stations are all great things to put in the pantry. Other things, be careful.

I have an outlet in a pantry that is next to my desk. The pantry will house my desktop computer, printer and supplies. I did think about an appliance pantry that would have an outlet. I kinda envisioned it as having a drawer that would slide out to hold the appliance being used. My vision never materialized in my current plans, but think it might be a good idea as long as what is being used is out in the open and not forgotten

Just a heads-up: check with your electrician about code re an outlet in a pantry. My electrician is working on another job where the owner decided to amend the kitchen plans and add a walk-in pantry with an outlet. It failed the city electrical inspection, basically because of the above concerns - potential for fire from use of electrical appliances in an enclosed space with combustible materials.

We have an outlet in our pantry for a small extra fridge and a toaster oven. Love it. We had many inspections done on our home and there was no problem with it.

Thanks to all for your feedback. The only appliance I am considering putting in the pantry is the microwave. We only use our microwave for heating and defrosting so a midsize inexpensive one should do it. In our design the MW is currently a drawer MW in the island. After reading the reviews of the drawers and seeing the expensive I don't think that is the option for us. I think I will start another thread about the convenience of microwaves in the pantry and see what type of feedback I get on that.

I just posted my pantry link on another thread. We have a microwave and toaster in there. I don't put the crock pot in there when I want to use it, since the counter is wood. We have 2 outlets.

I had our trim carpenter build it out. I showed him a photo of a wooden garden/potting shed bench for the table. It's a great place to set grocery bags while unloading, pour cereal/whatever.

We have two appliances running in our walk-in pantry. On one end is a large upright freezer, and on the other, by the door, is a small (4-6 bottles) countertop wine chiller. We've had the pantry for a long time, previously running a refrigerator and water cooler. We're just wrapping up our remodeling project, and I'll be posting pictures of the new configuration in the next day or two.

Yes, we have a couple of outlets in our pantry-- just in case.
Ended up coming in handy. I love my Advantium but found that an extra microwave comes in handy, especially when I'm using my Advantium to cook or as a warmer. Since we had the outlets, we were able to easily place our old microwave on a shelf.
I'll probably move the Swiffervac but just plugged it in this week.

yep! SO glad we put outlets in there. use it for the coffee maker and to plug in the dustvac. so far we don't use the one we put on the other wall, but I'm glad it's there just in case

Me too--I have an outlet in my pantry for my MW. I don't use a MW that often, and I don't much like how MW's look, so I put my MW in my pantry. I had my electrician install the receptacle there while he was doing my other kitchen electrical work. My electrician was obsessed with Code, a real stickler. He had no problem with putting the outlet in the pantry.

I have a corner pantry. I have double outlets on either side of the door, inside. Shelves floor to ceiling on the two "corner" walls.

I have a dustbuster plugged in, as well as a battery charger for my cordless drill. I have a pull-out shelf on order where I'm planning on putting my toaster. (Pull it out to use it, slide it back when I'm done.) After reading this, I think I'll wait until after the final inspection to do that!

I've contemplated putting a can opener in there, as well.

Ours is a wall pantry rather than a walk-in. We have an outlet in one cabinet for our water cooler. (I didn't want a water dispenser on the fridge door.) When I get around to it, I will hang the recharger for the small hand vacuum in there too.

Totally would do it again!!! We have a charging station for devices, our coffee maker and our rumba and LG cordless vacuum in there. So outlet on a shelf and then one closer to the floor. Other outlets we are glad we added are ones in bathroom cabinet for toothbrush charging in the kitchen cabinets for Bluetooth speakers and a few closet for cleaning tools.
