glass block wall/other natural light source?

As discussed in more length on a separate thread, we are still struggling with how to bring some natural light into our new kitchen when we move the main part of it from a current exterior room to an interior room.

Other link is here: http://ths.gardenweb.com/forums/load/kitchbath/msg0213321726068.html

An interesting option is that the wall that our sink will be on actually used to be an exterior wall of the house long ago. It is now an interior wall and our office is on the other side of it. Our contractor has suggested that we re-open what used to be a window between the two rooms so we can try to bring in some of the natural light. We definitely don't want to have the space literally open (sound, view, etc.) so the other idea we're toying with is whether we can visually open it up with some sort of frosted glass or glass block that would let some of the light in, but nothing else.

We are otherwise planning a pretty traditional renovation (white shaker cabinets, soapstone counters) in our 1930s house, so a glass block wall seems way out of keeping with the style we're going with. Has anyone ever seen such a thing? Any other ideas?

Thanks!
