I Googled images and found this blog with a dining room done in it. If you click on the photos; they'll expand. It looks nice, and I wonder if her ceiling is a pale gray?

Thanks for that link. I do remember seeing it before. It appears darker in my photos, but even as I was taking them I was remarking that it just wasn't coming through correctly!

I guess it may just be time to really clean and prep the walls and then paint a larger area with the paint I have left over and see if that helps me make the plunge.

Benjamin Moore Tempest is the other color that keeps catching my eye, but it's not as convenient for me to get, so I have not sampled it yet.

When I put their two color matches from myperfectcolor next to each other, the Tempest (left) seems to have just a bit more grey than the Antique Purple (right), but when I look at photos, sometimes it looks more purple than the Antique Purple does.

Like any paint, it's going to be affected by lighting and the surrounding colors

But I LIKE IT! It's that mountains in the distance purple, not kiddy purples

Yes, I think it is the surrounding colors that is throwing me off when I do the sample. I'm not going to get a full feel until I can get the white down to an accent color vs being the main color. I've never had this much trouble before, but I've never messed with dark colors much.

And yes, that kiddy purple is what I want to stay away from. No barney for me.

Did you see where the blogger was asked 'What color is the lighter purple (not in the dining room)? It's beautiful!" and she replied 'It's all the same color, antique purple by glidden. Some pics look lighter than others, not sure why.''

So like many other colors, it can look very different depending on how the light hits it. Both of the colors above are very nice, and I'm not a 'purple person'!

LOL, yes the lighting is maddening. Even trying to take my own photos I was experimenting with the flash, with the lights on or off, with the blinds up or down, etc and I put the paint on opposite walls, so that one would be exposed to light from a window and one would not. And I still was not happy with any shots I got.

But at least when I held up the paint swatch to what I had painted, it was pretty much an exact match.

Well, I took the plunge and painted the entire room. The BM tempest sample was just slightly more grey, so I went with it, but mixed in an ace hardware base. You couldn't tell much difference when I started painting between it and the antique purple, so I am pretty sure now that I would have been happy with either one.

I am really pleased with the results. It looks just a tad bluer in the photo to me than in real life, but it's not far off.

It looks lovely. I really like that color. Can't wait to see it decorated.

I was just mentioning in another thread that I've just started to notice some purpley blue in the decor world. The color reminds me of a basket of fresh blueberries.

Like my3dogs, I'm not a usually purple person but love this shade of blue/gray/purple.

Purple and white are the colors of the university I attended and work at, so I have been pretty inundated with shades of purple over the years. I like our official purple, but there is no way I would want a room painted in it, or even an accent wall. So many purples just strike me as kiddy or make me think of sports or something, but this one doesn't speak that way to me at all.
