Glass thickness for deck railing

I'm using glass panels for my decking. They'll be attached using stops on the posts on the side, a routed top rail on top, and a grooved 3" x 3" block on the bottom in the middle that I've seen used on a number of installations and works and looks great. My engineer and the city building inspector say the glass needs to be able to withstand 80 mph wind gusts (or, alternatively a 40# blow). My plan is to use 3/8" glass -- so section is longer than 5'. Does anyone know if 3/8" is sufficient to meet these specks or do I need to move to 1/2"????
