I just saw your kitchen on the glasses/dishes in drawers thread. I love your cabinets. Can you tell me a little more about them? Love the stainless counters as well. Any additional info you can provide on your choices would be greatly appreciated!!!

So sorry, didn't see this post. I have been spending day and night trying to clean and put things away. My kitchen is finally done! But, to answer your question..my cabinets were made from old barn wood, quarter sawn oak. They cut old beams to get the wood. I was going to stain them but fell in love with the natural color, so I just put a sealer on them.
My counters are stainless steel and concrete. I am trying to post my pictures soon. I'd be happy to answer more questions if you have them!

I think it is gorgeous. Depending on your lighting conditions, it could be great. Hard to say without knowing anything else about the space. I will say that you should probably be using Modern Emulsion for a kitchen. I don't think I would personally like the slight sheen of the ME in a very deep color. I think the samples come in Estate Emulsion, so it will be hard to judge the finish. You may not have the same "issues" about matte vs. shiny as I do! ;-) I have never seen anyone here use that color before. Maybe your inquiry will scare someone up! Have you googled F&B Brinjal? There is an interesting thread on Canadian House and Home about the color. Someone goes into a long explanation which I don't have time to read because I am supposed to be painting right now!! (I'd link it but I somehow think we're not allowed to link to another board...?)

I have a similar system as hockeymom and lisa . . . I bought pegboard and the uprights separately. The only thing I don't like is that the uprights ar little sharp on the edges and I occasionally scrape a knuckle. Next kitchen I'll track down the dowels or go for the Ikea lifters, which I think are neat. My drawer is a 36" pots and pans drawer and it works great. I do, however, keep my glassware in an upper cabinet.

No, not soapstone. But I can tell you that the fellow at Ann Arbor Granite is very nice and helpful (even when not ordering granite) and that we found good countertop prices and service at Ann Arbor Cabinet Company on Carpenter, south of Quality 16. If you really have to start fishing, either one of these companies might be able to point you to a pond. Also, I believe Mackswim is in the area; although s/he didn't do soapstone to my recollection (lovely reclaimed wood cabs and concrete counters, so entirely different direction). Good luck!

Thanks for getting back to me. Can't wait to see your pics. I love the naturalness of the unstained wood. It's light, yet has the nice darker contrasts in spots. I was wondering if you had stained it at all. Are you happy with the stainless counters? I'm thinking of those as well. Your kitchen sounds like the look I'm going for. An industrial, eclectic, traditional kitchen. Not sure if that makes sense to anyone but me!!!! Thanks again.

Just saw the finished pics posting. Looks fabulous!!! How funny, I'm also considering the Liebherr. Looks like you got the built in. Are you happy with it. How many are in your family? Is it enough space? Mostly worried about the freezer part being big enough for all our ice cream!!!

I did put a sealer on it. It is called Bona Natural their web-site is www.bona.com. Someone over in woodworking suggested it. The seeler hardly changed the color of the wood but also made the wood grain "pop".
We love the Liebherr. It fits a lot of stuff even though it is on the smaller side. We are a family of three, usually, but also have two other family members living with us and we have plenty of room. The freezer area is small (we have 2 ice creams, three boxes of fruit bars and 3 sorbets though) but so much more usable then my old 36" frige that stuff was just jammed into. You can also take the drawers out and just have shelves (they are glass). Hope that helps!
