Apple TV Fun

Some friends gave me an Apple TV for Christmas and I have to say it is fast becoming one of my favorite toys. I'm more of a reader than a television watcher, but I like to watch an hour or so at night before bed, but I'm super picky about the kind of show I want to watch.

With Apple TV, I've been exploring all of the shows and movies available to me through Amazon Prime. There are many of the BBC series that posters here have mentioned liking and there are older series from broadcast television. I found one yesterday that I quite liked called, The Guardian. It stars Simon Baker from The Mentalist. I only watched the pilot, but it has three seasons available, enough to last me for a few months.

I knew about access to streaming shows through Amazon Prime, but I would have had to watch on my computer or iPad which I probably would never do. It's so much more comfortable to watch on my television.

There are many worthwhile sources for streaming content over the internet and many devices that can be used. Some use these cheaper avenues in place of hefty cable or other TV programming packages.

If you don't already have the capability, note that many TVs and Blu-Ray/'DVD players have built-in apps to access the various sites like Netflix, Amazon Prime, etc.

For those in more rural or remote areas with internet access via satellite or cell phone systems, your bandwidth limitations may make internet video streaming not feasible.

Yep... and that sucks.... :(

I always want to stomp my feet and throw a tantrum when I hear people rave about Netflix, Amazon Prime, etc...

LOL! Oh well...

I've started watching "Hack My Life". It gives tips and tricks, and shows how to do them. I think it is on TruTV. Learned a few interesting things.

I wanted fun and comfy chairs for our TV/media room ...

LOL @ busybee3! My thoughts exactly about "learning to!" DH was a super sport (he was drenched in sweat by the time we figured out that both chairs were NOT going to fit in his vehicle in only one trip, and this turned out to be a 4-hour endeavor getting them home) - but he did grumble a bit about me and my darn penchant for Craigslist finds. I reminded him that these chairs are as good as new, and for the price? Heck, you can barely buy a folding chair from Walmart for $25! ;-) Thanks so much for the kind words. These chairs are a style departure for me, but I'm excited about adding a few touches to the media room. In fact, I was JUST on allposters.com "framing" the Metropolis poster ... but with moving costs (etc.) looming, I can't justify buying right now -- although they ARE having a 35% off sale that ends tomorrow!

Apple TV - lost remote
Q

It seems pretty simple. If you have an iPad, iPod Touch, or iPhone you can download the Remote app from the Apple App Store which will allow you to use the device to control your Apple TV. Use a universal remote, which will also require downloading the Remote app to set up the remote. Once you have that done, the universal remote will function alone. Buy a new remote for about $20. If the only thing you use the Apple TV to do is watch Netflix, then going through Comcast would probably be easier and wouldn't require a new remote.

What's good on Apple TV besides Ted Lasso

I thought The Morning Show was quite good. You start off thinking it’s a basic workplace drama, but then it slips into an interesting walk through ”Me Too” from every possible vantage point. You find yourself wanting to root for everyone and no one all at once.

I loved the Guardian series and that is where I discovered Simon Baker. Don't think the Mentalist is as good, but I do watch sometimes. Enjoy that TV. My DS is trying to convince me that "that" is the way to go. DH just likes surfing, I believe... and watches endings and beginnings forever.
