Flooring for lg scrnd porch - stone, tile, stampd concrete, pics?

We're building new, and I'd like some recommendations for flooring for a large screened in porch that will stand up to weather and lots of use.

I'm planning to have enough of an overhang so that a minimum of rain/sun will be coming in, but I still need something that can handle moisture and temp variations, and hides dirt pretty well. (Not interested in any kind of wood - been there, done that.)

I am working with the engineer to have a slab surface for the porch. Is that the best choice?

We spend a very large amount of time out there, and have pets, so something easy-care, easy-clean and TOUGH would be great.

I'm thinking of some kind of natural stone or tile with a non-slip surface and would love some suggestions and pics if possible.

Any of those will do fine.
What do you really want?
I like flagstone over concrete but it's high price, I also like an Acrylic knockdown and it's really affordable. There are a lot of diffeerent finishes in the middle.

What is acrylic knockdown? I've never heard of that.

I guess what I want is something natural-looking, so maybe stamped concrete isn't a good idea. Since it will be largely interior, I'd like something that will be visually-pretty. I definitely don't want something that has a regular pattern.

It's a large space, so cost is a factor, but I don't want to go cheap because we spend SO much time out there. (We spend as much time as possible on our current one.)

Soooo, maybe something textural and mid-priced that is easy care and hides dirt? Does that exist? lol.

So ds#1 is still sick, going on day 12 now. 2 doc visits, 1 lab draw and finally a stool sample to find out what is wrong with this kid! :( Have to wait a couple days for results but he has not been to school only but 2 half days in the past 2 weeks. Ugh! Thankfully his teacher is sending work home so he can stay caught up. Holy cow batman - the bathroom countertops are almost finished! They are all laminate plus a shelf in the pantry and a little desk spot for my youngest. They should be finished by tomorrow and I'll snag pics. Yay! marjorie-so I finally stopped and READ the threads vs. the quick skim and oh my aching back I cannot believe the audacity of your quartz supplier. Grr! I hope they do give it to you for the other cost, that is totally ridiculous! I am doing exactly as you suggested, kitchen backsplash LATER. The bathrooms are the focus now but that shouldn't be too difficult...or maybe it will knowing me. carsonheim-so when dh empty's the DW the skillets are stacked just like that, it is totally possible for the largest skillet to be balanced on my teeny tiny IKEA egg skillet. What's up with that? jenny-eeeek, gorgeous! You go girl! joallen-$800 bucks for 3 corbels or $160 for 6 support brackets that will be invisible (we installed 5 but they come in sets of 3). Woot woot on savings - but I spent the savings on upgraded drawer glides for the kitchen only. This is what we bought: Counter Balance jackson-wow that is awesome flooring! Kudos to you! Ditto on slab drawer fronts for the bathroom. We actually used a different manufacturer for the laundry and kids baths to save some $. They are still actually very nice. I am very pleased with them so far. Hope to be back with pics tomorrow. Still taping stairwell, I need to get that finished. It's totally hanging over my head, stressing me out and making me a little edgy, not unlike GROUTchy. ;)

Hi all, My windows arrived!!! House was bustling with activity yesterday as they started installation, laid sewer, water and electric and poured the basement floor!! Jackson...so sorry to hear about your beautiful stone. Will keep my fingers crossed that you find something that you like even better. Robyn...congrats on passing inspections! Your insulation looked perfect so am not surprised! This next stage things will really start to come together...you must be excited! Amberm...you are getting so close to starting. We had so many delays and restarts that until that hole was in the ground I never really believed that it was going to happen. Our permits took 7 wks and thanks to reading all the stories here it sounded like it was not that bad even though it felt like forever! I think it was you that said you were building in a city in Canada...which one?? I grew up in Canada (Toronto & Calgary) and still have lots of family throughout the country. Hoosier...your concrete looks great!! It must be so nice to be able to supervise from the house (pj's and all) then having to trek down there everyday. Musicgal...you need to start packing and get into that beautiful new home! Carson...your neighbor sure puts things in perspective. It is so easy to get caught up in the not so important things in life as you build and a reminder like that really helps put things back in perspective. Hope she is ok. Jdez...I laughed so hard over your permit office comment that I almost spit my coffee out! The permit office did miss a few things...like support for a bump out window...it was in the garage so we were able to roll with it and create a cool window box to break up that wall. Caben...plaster looks good and that stone will look great under the raised bedroom. Autumn... Like that tile...it is nice and simple and should go beautifully with your counters. New fridge came. Much drama getting water connected. Got to actually practice a lot of Spanish, though, which is cool. The previous fridge didn't have a working ice maker, and LOTS of plumbing work had been done in the house during this time. I knew better but didn't insist on flushing the line before connecting. Once the water wouldn't flow, I eventually convinced installer to flush first the line from the wall and then the length of tubing. By then it was too late! Fridge was stopped up internally. Installer was flummoxed. I cranked up the PSI from the well and kept washing the filter. Third wash worked. Kicking butt and taking names! The previous fridge had leaked for a year. Only a small ridge of Pergo was damaged at all. You have to get down on the floor to notice it n I didn't bother to clean it up after the first month, either. Whatever the original owners first installed is, sadly, long gone. New fridge is SO much easier to see things in. I hope we will have addressed most of my husband's habit of opening two gallons of milk at the same time and shoving food in the back and abandoning it. I can put four gallons on the door--key for me. (Used to be zero.) Even with that, I can fit almost all of the door stuff in the rest of the door containers. This is a bad time of the week to show how much it holds because I've cooked all the produce--and we have eaten down the fridge a lot. Still, I can stack the Rubbermaid Premeir 9 cup containers 2 deep on the edges--also important. Without a custom depth future fridge cabinet, I would hate this fridge. It is a MONSTER. But because I can do custom depth, I love it. No other place for cleaning supplies. Open.... Drama!

@ILoveRed Here's my crappy sketch of the measurements I took of the master vanity today. The top of the mirror is at 77" so well above our heads. faucet is 7.25" above the counter and the bottom of the mirror is 13.5" above the counter. The sconces are between 10.5" and 11.5" from the mirrors and close, but not perfectly centered in their spaces. @Intoodeep We were going to get the LG WM9000HVA washer with the side kick. When we went in to purchase, the salesperson steered us away from the LG. There's a port on the lower front of the machine that you open to drain water from the machine. The design of the tub doesn't allow for complete draining so it's recommended that you drain it at least once a month so it doesn't get mildewy. Not a huge chore, but we also decided to go with a machine that has a pull out tray for the detergent rather than the top front the LG had. It will allow us to push the machines back into the cubbies more. The sidekick would have been nice for small kids loads, but in the end, wasn't a deal breaker convenience.

Knockdown is a combination of cement, sand, and acrylic plastics applied over existing concrete. It comes in a standard finish called Lace and can be done into patterns like herringbone brick, flagstone, and many others.
The most popular Mfg is Sundek, try putting it into Google search.
It'll be the most affordable upgrade to your existing concrete.
Stamped, colored, and sealed patterned concrete overlay is beautiful. I'm not really a fan of it around pools because it beads water and can be slick. Kids with wet feet always run around pools in spite of a no running rule. In your application it would be awesome. Figure on double the price of Acrylic for it. On natural flagstone figure on 3 to 4 times the price.

I'm curious, how large of an area are you planning on?

Right now, it is 28 x 28, but I might make it a bit larger. The one we have now is 34 x 28, and I like that.

I did google the acrylic knock down, but I couldn't find many pictures of floor applications. The Sundek website is having issues. It fits a lot of what I am looking for, but I think I want a natural stone of some kind. Trying to find what I want without breaking the bank is the issue I guess.

Anytime you get a covered porch over 500 square it's going to be roomy enough for everything and more.
Your current patio allows room for the band, tables for the fans, and a dance floor too.

Haha. You would like the one we have now.
Our house was built in 1850, and the SIP is a true Southern "sleeping porch" with white columns, beadboard ceiling, wooden floors and a lot of character.
We're trying to replicate the feel of it without the maintenance of the wooden floor.
We've got a daybed, a swing, a wicker rocker, a patio set, lots of plants, some tables and misc bric a brac.
I bought some of that vinyl-enclosed clear lighting and put it all around the top next to the ceiling.
It looks really nice for summer evenings. We've got fans and hanging windchimes and various other stuff, and we spend HOURS out there.
I hope to end up with something even remotely close in the new place. :)
