Neutering should help with several of the problems you mention. Caterwailing at night is how mature males find mates, and your boy has reached sexual maturity. He's looking for love. Jumping on other cats and biting the back of the neck is also sexually-based, dominance behavior that should subside once he's neutered (and given about 6 weeks post-neuter for the residual hormones to dissipate).

Peeing outside of the litterbox is frequently a symptom of urinary tract infection, urinary crystals, or some other disease. He needs to be checked by your vet.

Also, some cats are extremely finicky about the cleanliness of their litterboxes, so keeping your litterboxes immaculately clean (you should have several boxes with 5 cats) will help keep him using the boxes if he's healthy.

Make certain that none of the other cats are bothering or ambushing him while he's using a box. That's about the fastest way I know of to convince a cat NOT to use a box.

Try using a different type of box (covered vs open) and/or litter in one of the boxes and see if he prefers that.

Keep clothes and other things he has peed on up off of the floor, and clean the spots he has soiled thoroughly with an enzymatic pet stain cleaner like Simple Solution or Nature's Miracle.

Also: male cats have a much higher incidence of blockage, so you need to keep an eye on that, if blockage is the problem

My three male cats started peeing everywhere, for no reason. I took them to the Vets, all three had Urinary Track Infections. After a bout of medication, the peeing stopped.

You all have missed the point first I have several CLEAN LITTLER BOXES HE HAS BEEN CHECKED BY THE VET AND DOES NOT HAVE ANY PHYSICAL PROBLEMS.......... I just want to get this straight because I'm all confused now.

The way I understand his urine issues is that he pees in the litter box sometimes, but not all the time. When he is peeing outside of the box, he squats just like normal.

So my questions are: Is the "sandbox" the same thing as a litterbox and is it outside or inside? How long has he been urinating outside the litterbox? When was he checked out for a urinary problem? What were the results of the urinalysis? What other tests were done to rule out physical problems in relation to urinating?

Just because he is not spraying doesn't mean that it isn't a testosterone-related problem. Different cats mark territory in different ways. Some spray, some pee, some poop, some just rub themselves all over everything within reach. The only problem is that even if this is a testosterone-related issue, the behavior may be already ingrained and may not correct itself even after he is neutered becaue he's been doing it so long. If that's the case, you'll need to start a behavior modification program to get him to stop doing this. But you won't know what's going to happen until about 6 weeks after he's neutered.

About the crying:
Cats are basically nocturnal animals, so he may be crying at night because he's just not adapted to a dinural schedule. Certain breeds of cats just make a lot of noise, so if he is mixed with Siamese or some other loudmouth, they may just be his personality. There could also be a stray/outdoor cat or other animal coming near the house that he sees or hears and he's talking to it. I don't know if he can see/hear outdoors or not, but if so that is a possibility. If he doesn't seem painful or in distress, then at least he's comfortable. Although I understand that would be really annoying to listen to.

Secondly, if I read you right, "talking with the vet" is not going to the vet, getting a thorough exam and urinaylsis.

If you read the link I posted you would see that many vets overlook certain urinary tract conditions.

elly, you make a very good point. I recall many years ago, our family cat decided to pee in a plant. That was very unusual behaviour for Buster so mother took him to the vet. We were heartbroken when she returned without our beloved Buster who had advanced kidney failure & had to be put down. He was only 6 or so at the time & hid his illness from us. I remember my mother telling us that we were not to blame, as the vet had explained to her that cats could do this, something about survival of the fittest. I don't think, after all these years, I've ever gotten over losing Buster. We just didn't know.

I put that in caps to emphazie which you apparently didn't read.............he has been checked by the vet several times also I have talked with the vet since he was born ( Was about his crying everynight which was done in the many office visits updating her....) he has another appointment to go back no one is trying to be rude.
I have read several posts here on this forum and the problem is PEOPLE do not read they are quick to JUDGE!!!!!!!!!!
I just posted this to see if perhaps anyone else may have had this problem not for medical advice from nonprofessionals that is why I am paying a vet!!!!!!!!
My vet is excellent doctor who really cares for her animals
and has done a battery of tests on him..........which all have come back good!As I stated he has appointment to be fixed after christmas and she is NOW going to check him for neuro problems since he has no physical...........

Your title is "cat peeing not spraying." So that I addressed that issue, sicne it seemed, from your title, that was the issue .

But your message above now says this question was bout his crying everynight.

And you never wrote that he had lab work, urinalysis, etc.
