Retractable Patio Awning?

Our outside patio gets the sun all day long. I been looking at the Sunsetter Awning. I could get a 16ft Motorized Awning with a remote for around $1850.00. Does anybody have any reviews on this make?

Mary I have a SunSetter Motorized Pro Awning. We purchased it last July and so far its been great. We did check around at local awning shops but they were almost twice as much as the Sunsetter. We ended up getting ours on eBay. We found out that the Sunsetter Pro model comes with a built in front screen the comes down in the front of the awning. You could only get the pro model from a dealer. I searched it on eBay and found many Pro Models for sale from dealers. It was actually cheaper to get a Pro Model on eBay then getting a regular Motorized on the SunSetter site. The one we bought was called the Super Pro. It came with 5 accessories.

If you belong to Costco they have this same awning on sale, 30% off, until March 6th. I know a few people on this form had purchased from them and were happy. Do a search to see who it was that wrote about their awning. It was dischnell and Florida gal, last July.

Retractable awnings are excellent at providing shade for patios/exterior spaces and the interior spaces. Like many have said, you get what you pay for as far as quality goes. Most reputable manufacturers and installers will provide a warranty. Our warranty is 5 years and if you select an awning fabric from Sunbrella, it is covered for 10 years. We've had a shade tree canopy for 2 years and love it. Sunbrella is a good quality outdoor fabric. Water doesn not seep through the fabric. The fact that it comes in sections allows longer projections and flexible installation - yes, rain will fall beteen the panels if left open in the rain. So if you want to sit outside in the rain that is not a good choice. One thing I like about them is that they will disengage in wind if you happen to leave it open and storm kicks up, which happend to us about a month a go. 70 mph winds and the canopies were fine. Landscapers - it sounds like your complaints about the shadetree canopies are that it did not fit your desired application, which is your fault for selecting the wrong product if it was not acceptable. We've been very happy with ours, but it may not be for everyone.

A little late to the game, but in case you're still looking... here's an idea: have you looked at adjustable louvered roofs? They might be more expensive than what you're looking for b/c they're more than awnings for sure. BUT they last forever, unlike the awning and are a true investment in your home. They're like a pergola but the louvers adjust via remote control 160 degrees to open for sun or close for shade and rain protection. They're super durable and can be clad to fit design styles. But, like I said, they're a significant jump in price from an awning. BUT they're a lot less than a porch (unless you add all the whistles and bells like screening, heaters, speakers, PVC cladding, lighting, fans, etc...in that case, it might come a bit closer to a porch cost) A basic one for your size deck, w/ a fan, would prob cost you anywhere between $7K-15K depending on size of the Equinox and other variables and such. Thank you both for the information. We don't have Costco around my area. The eBay auction is actually a great price on the awning. Thank you Kliner for the information. I like the fact of the Built in Front Weather Breaker on the Pro Model. They don't have that option on the SunSetter Site.

Mary SunSetter just came out with a woven acrylic line. Its looks more like fabric. Not sure which model though.
