Runing water=heater from generator.
Comments (6)Each element is on a seperate thermostatic switch. If enough water is drawn from the water heater both elements will come on at the same time. If both elements drawing power excedes the capacity of your generator the circuit breaker of the generator will trip, if you are lucky. But these circuit breakers are not very reliable. It is just as likley that over-loading a generator will damage it. This is the whole reason to do this re-wiring in the first place....See MoreSolar hot water, tankless, gas condensing water heater...?
Comments (2)If you go with any sort of solar system, make sure it has a gas backup and not electric. My energy costs went up $100/month when I added our solar system down here in San Diego. I am now getting it corrected with the installation of a small gas tankless unit, using the solar storage system as a pre-heater. If you're building the home then many of the traditional drawbacks of tankless don't apply to you. You can build in the correct gas line and venting from the start. If I were in your shoes I'd probably go tankless (30 percent tax credit this year -- see the stimulus law or visit www.energystar.gov). If a single unit won't handle your demand then get two. And plumb it with the small tank system (10 gallon) for recirculation and to overcome any sandwich problems. This approach has been detailed in this forum somewhere....See MoreGeneral ?? - Water Heater Size
Comments (9)my house has a 40 gallon electric tank. when it goes kaput will be replaced with at least a 50 gallon gas. we run out of hot each morning before my shower is done, if i am lucky right as i finish. my wife has to shave her legs, wash her hair, condition it, scrub with something, soap up, then use a moisturizer rinse, etc etc etc.. she takes about 20 minutes or longer. then i get up about 15 minutes later and get mine. before my 5 minute shower(usually less time than that) is up, the water starts to get cold. if i don't get it right away, it will go pure cold!...See MoreGas water heater for well water (rotten egg smell)
Comments (8)It's not bacteria that react with the anode rods. It's more likely the naturally occurring sulfates that are in your water that become hydrogen sulfide gas in your water heater. It could be that you have the hydrogen sulfide in your water and the heat just causes it to exit the water to the air where you can smell it. If you have hydrogen sulfide in your cold water as well, that could be caused by bacteria. You need to get your water tested to know for sure. Take 1- liter samples of your cold and hot water to a local independent lab to determine sulfur, sulfates, hydrogen sulfide, iron, hardness, pH, TDS. Ask the lab how to collect the samples to ensure accurate results. Then you can determine your best course of action because you will knur where your problem is. If it is purely a hot water hubby the powered anode is probably a good solution. However, the most reliable solution will likely be to remove the sulfur compounds from your water. Switching to an electric water heater will not affect the problem at all....See Morelazypup
