Yesterday we had a record high of 92 degrees here.

This mornings low was 39 and it has warmed up to a whopping 43 now at 11 a.m. It's time to carry in an armful of wood and start a fire to take the chill off the basement where my computer is.

Wow - isn't it the strangest year? It is about 89
here - about 20 degrees higher than it should be for
this time of year.

Thanks for the replies. The reason I had grown MM was that they are the earliest maturing variety, just 45 days and their small size so one person can eat it in one session. I had read good reviews on this melon on this site. I had planted them in late july and picked them in end of September. They overnight turned from green to yellow and another day later they slipped. They were fully ripe. Wayne 5 and Lantanascape, the description you have given is pretty much I would agree with. Others here still saying good things about it. I am not sure if I should try this again or not. Thanks for the opinions.

Why not build your own? Its a good way to save money. A pvc gh built the right way will hold up pretty good if you pull the snow of it or you can heat the gh while its snowing to melt the snow right off. I'm currently working on mine and will have no more than $250 into it when done. If I used native cut lumber it would be cheaper yet. The wood is the most expense part! The size is 12x16 which is large enough for now. I will grow veggies directly in the soil, no benches for me.

Hey girl, No whining allowed. After years of grumbling that mosquitoe repellents should address other critters too, I found the large orange capped "Off" family mosquito and insect repellent is safer than some. You can't miss the orange printing on the label either. I chose the pump spray, it doesn't take much. We attended an outdoor play with friends and out of desperation, we tried it for the biting flies. I was surprised it worked, cuz I thought it was only for mosquitoes. Later, of course, I read the label and found it was for all sorts of critters, including flies. gramma jan

I'd really love to come. My car isn't that dependable. While it hasn't given me any problems, I'm planning on trading it in, hopefully this fall. So I haven't put new tires on it, and the a/c isn't working. I'd love to see everyone too. I've hinted to Mom about it, and where it is, (she has a nephew in Minneapolis she could visit too)but seems she didn't get the hint. That, and the guy finally gave me a quote on the pad I'm having poured for my trailer. While it's cheaper than what I'd thought it'd be, I better save the extra that I'd use for gas. I was hoping someone in my area would go, and we could split the gas. Take lots of pictures, and post them please. Leslie

Same here in southern Wisconsin. I blame it on our position on the continent, the Rocky Mountains, and location of the jet stream. A strong air mass movement from the SW can bring in heat from the 'desserts' of Oklahoma and Kansas, and then a weather system moving in from Canada (Alberta Clipper) can bring down on our heads a polar air mass within 12 to 24 hours. We not only enjoy a 4-season climate, but can have a 4 season change in 48 hrs. LOL. A strong eastly wind off Lake Michigan can mess up all predictions. That body of water is cold all summer and does not reach peak temperture until September.

Same here Ron. 89Â° yesterday, and 43Â° when I got up. It's 50Â° now.

Up and Down and Up and Down. Not just the weather -- my DH going to the basement to adjust the humidifiers on the furnaces.

As usual our little magnolia starts budding; then along comes a one-day scorcher and it blossoms full out; then comes the wind, rain and hail and it's goodbye blossoms.

Air conditioning last night; heat tonight.

Through it all nothing stops the cardinal from claiming the entire neighborhood at the top of his voice...at 4:30 a.m.

Have a room-full of fist-sized rocks in the basement, pipes to solar collector on roof, small fan in pipe. Piping system with fan to feed the house, to push air through rock-room.

Even out the heats and cools.

I'm in St. Paul. I had out of town guests yesterday, and we sat outside drinking summer drinks in our shirtsleeves. It was 85 and felt like mid-summer. Then during dinner out we literally felt the weather change within the hour. When we emerged from the restaurant we were shivering from the cold. I came home and went around slamming the wide-open windows shut, putting on my woolie pjs (still!), and turning on the heat. Minnesota weather is bizarre! Right now both short sleeve shirts and shorts, and flannel shirts and parkas, are all mingled in my closet. Still too early to put the coats and gloves away!

That sounds like CA! Last week we had a heat wave for 4 days with the high at 101. The week before we had frost and temps down to freezing at night. Now it is finally at more normal temps with 40-50's at night and 60-70's during the day. My tomato plants are huge, but I couldn't put them in the garden with the weather being a roller coaster like that. Weird weather lately!

I blame it on Susan Boyle and all the attention focused on her like a magnifying glass has burned a hole in the atmosphere causing the imbalance in the upper atmosphere. We'll now have to use the Continuem Transfunctioner to banish her to Hoboken, New Yersey.

It was only 58 yesterday, but at least the sun was out!
This morning, rain and then snow and then rain the rest of the day. It is the winter that WILL NOT END!
