Bitter Apple repels animals that tase it, so it wouldn't keep the cat away from your legs (unless she's licking them).

Do you pet her, pick her up, feed her or something else she likes when she rubs against your legs? If you do, she'll continue that behavior you don't want.

You could try clapping your hands or saying "no" loudly when she does it, or even give her a tiny spritz of water from a spray bottle along with the reprimand.

It may take some time and patience to teach her to keep away from your legs, but it can be done.

I know you'll continue to play with her and pet her at other times -- she's still young and will enjoy plenty of activity and attention.

Thanks for the suggestions. She does get attention during the day along with her 3 other resident cats. I swing "da bird", use the laser, provide toys etc.

I've been using the water pistol a little to keep them off the Christmas tree and it has worked.

I guess we can use the water pistol for different things. I'll try that with or without the "no" and be patient as you suggest.

If you really want to use an aversive I would try it with the "no" Ginny -- then after a few times try the "no" without the bottle. Try to wean off the bottle so that you only need the word. Your aim is to teach her that "no" means "stop whatever you're doing." You won't always have the bottle with you, after all. So the "no" comes first, and the squirt only comes if she doesn't move away.

Cats have extremely sensitive senses of smell, perhaps even stronger than dogs. You can certainly try using different things on your pants legs. You might find that something as simple as lemon or vanilla discorages the behavior. But like having the bottle with you at all times, this is an inconvenience.

Have you considered using clicker training to put the behavior on cue? That way you could cue it when you wnated it and cue him not to do it when you don't want it. You would both win that way. Plus, you'd be teaching with reward, not punishment. Plus, you'd be learning skills that would help you with traiing your other two cats as well, and you and your kitties would all have a lot of fun training times together.
