Decorating A Child's Room with Odd Angles-Pics!
Comments (22)Okay, I moved the bed last night, and I don't think it will work in this set-up. I think it just looks odd with the half-wall beside it. Also, there is not enough room on the sides for a nightstand, and the bookshelf next to the window. I had planned on doing matching built in bookshelves flanking the window wall. Finally, it pretty much necessitates that my kid gets in and out of the bed at the foot of it, which is annoying when making it. Here is the bed turned into the alcove. I'm going to put the bed along this wall now (turned out, not flush against the wall. Maybe I can move it back enough to where you don't have to sidestep it too much when you walk in. One more perspective of the room: These photos were taken at night, so the lighting is a bit off. But they are perhaps a bit more clear. I'm going to move it against the wall where the crib was next and see how that looks. And thank you all for talking me down from the navy walls. I think you are right that it will be too dark in there. So now I'm going to go for a more taupe or light tan color, I believe. Any color suggestions?...See MoreHow to Decorate around an Off-Centre Window? Any Thoughts?
Comments (9)Yes -- both of the excellent solutions above will work. 1) Hide It! Basically hang curtains across the entire wall. You can still hang swing-arm lamps -- through the curtains -- on both sides of the bed which will add to the illusion. Plus add tiny bedside tables or cabinets to create more symmetry to the entire wall and room. 2) Deal with It! Okay -- the issue is to create visual balance using the principles or ideas of assymmetry. Do a VERY simple window treatment -- for example a sheer fabric -- inside the window frame. Add your bedside tables and lamps. Stand back and look again. Add artworks or something like black-and-white photos (frame in simple strong frames) -- maybe two or three or even a small gride of four to "balance" the window. This can be a bit tricky -- but it all depends on the size, number and shapes of the artworks. 3) Use it! Now this depends on your skills as a planner and carpenter .... create a wall of bookshelves around your whole bed. You MIGHT want to remove the frame around the window -- and build the shelves around it. OR you MIGHT want to cover it with the bookcases or shelves (yes -- remove the frame and frost the window first) Hope this helps!! Jan at Rosemary Cottage...See MoreDecorate around this...... Comments (19)Hey OB2B, Good to see you posting. We are downsizing and none of the rooms are massive. It is a very modest house. The Master bedroom is 13.5x12 (ish) Fortunately DH and I sleep in a queen. Looking for a bed is very preliminary as first we need to get the house built and then I have to get window treatments, then I have to prioritize furniture to be purchased and most likely the master bedroom wont be high on the list. This is why I have a DIY upholstered headboard; the master doesnt often make the top of the list. LOL I dont post too much about the build. There is quite a bit of snark on the forums these days. It's a net zero house, it doesnt look traditional and that get's a bit of ire. Sometimes I am just not in the mood to deal with it. Let them spew their venom on someone else. BC and UMO -awesome. Go Black Bears! We have a friend who plays football there, and of course know several students. If he ever needs anything, let me know. My oldest was at University of Pittsburgh, just completed his second year but he is taking next year off, and will decide if he wants to return or transfer. The youngest is off next year to Connecticut College, it's in New London- has a lovely campus that was once an arboretum so his tree loving mama is very happy....See MoreHow to decorate around old furniture
Comments (41)It is in your heart, your mind, and your soul. My daughter really has color in her. She was adopted from Russia and there was nothing bleaker then that orphanage. She was immediately transfixed on color. Really. As soon as she could stand I put her on the back deck in her diaper and placed a whole bunch of colors in empty ice cube trays. She intuitively knew which colors went together. Her paintings were seriously better than a lot of modern art I had or had seen. I continued to provide her with paper on easels as soon as she could stand up. I called the local town newspaper and they came by and seriously she wound up on the front page of the small paper. At about five I could show her a color of something and she could go to the many colors at home depot and pick out the exact color. She makes every excuse not to become a colorist even after I showed her how much I paid for six hours and wound up using my daughter's choices. You should look up Mary Morrissey. She starts out by saying we have to push away what we perceive are obstacles (money, divorce, children, health) and see what we want to happen. I found her because I can no longer practice speech pathology in schools the way I want to and the way I know is right. It came to me that I want to be a life coach because I love bringing out what people are meant to do and what would make them really happy. That is when Mary Morrissey popped up on my computer. I put it out there in the universe and there it was. Am I a life coach yet? No but I listen to the inspirations and I know I will. I keep visualizing what I want and I know it will come. I would pay you with a degree or not. lol I wish you lived near me....See More- 10 years agolast modified: 9 years ago
