Wow Pat, you got a lot done! I think it's smart to do it that way, pick everything out and have it ready to go and then demo. It will go much more quickly once you start, and you will be without a k;tchen for a shorter period of time. Are you DIY?

We demo'd in late Jan and just got cabs installed Friday. Had to figure out where and how many w;ndows we wanted, then wait for those to be in before ordering cabs. Those took 1 1/2 weeks. I think we have decided on the quartz we want for counters, but have to find the best place to do them. The one recommended by the cab guy didn't inspire confidence at all!

We are not DIY, so we are limited to M-F as far as real progress. But we are deciding on cab hdware and paint and trim and exact floor finish (hdwood) and f@ucets and stove backsplash and the rest of the k;tchen backsplash. And then we'll be ... dare I say?... finished. I'm hoping 3 weeks, but it sounds like you may be finished before we are!

As silly as it sounds I was able to come to a place of at least a little peace with my choices, which means I actually slept last night!

I will start another post though cause I don't want to hijack this one.

This weekend I did the following:
Temporarily attached the new intercom system and tested it.
Finished the cabling for the intercom (electrical and audio)
Finished building the new desk hutch
Installed the new desk hutch
Finished building six shelves for the hutch - cut them to size, sanded them, and stained them

We are in day 9, started a DYI reno end of January. We did a complete demo and we installed our cabinets today! We installed our kitchen aid french door fridge, waiting for appliances to arrive on Thursday and calling in for the granite template fro Saturday. I went with the grohe lady lux 3 faucet, hopefully it will come this well as well as the Ticor S112 single sink. Good luck!

We (meaning the GC lol!) finished the kitchen this weekend!!!!! I picked out my paint color & the painter comes on Tuesday & then I promise to post pics.

Today my fabulous hubby vacuumed & cleaned out every nook & cranny of the kitchen, drawers, cabinets, etc of all construction dust & I started putting some of the dishes/pots & pans away. That felt SO good.

We are so close now :)

Vate- thanks for posting those pics. The slab we chose is a more random, less striped than yours. I told DH we need to preserve what I see as a fox in one section. LOL. He saw a koi fish in another part.

We are not DIY, but GC wants all parts in hand before demo to avoid delays.

I began cleaning up my garage in anticipation of all the stuff that I will have to store when I pack up the kitchen. I have to work around a lot of boxes. I moved into this house almost 2 years ago and I have at least 15 boxes currently in the garage that are waiting to be unpacked when the kitchen is done.

But for me the big day is tomorrow. I will be meeting with the first contractor to go over everything so that he can work on our bid. We'll meet with the second contractor in a week. This is making it very real.

Nothing. I have demo on 3/12 and sat on my duff all weekend. I did try to plan things out in my head - temp. kitchen and where to store things. I cannot believe I am so unmotivated.

I got the mylar of our land subdivision and with the help of some of the great kitchen gurus here I made a decision on our microwave/pantry/coffee station layout.

Spent another 5 hours online looking for island lighting, again with no success. :-(

Our GC was here on Sat, and he and DH banged out the casings, island structure, beadboard backsplash, and other misc trim stuff. GC will be mostly finished tomorrow. Plumber comes prob Fri and electrical is finished on Sat. We have LOTS of painting and more trim work that we are doing ourselves to do during the in between, and next week.

We bought our backsplash! I know we're doing things in a weird order, but they were seconds and fit our color scheme so perfectly. Had to jump. Well...felt like we should jump. That's the tile with the antique heart pine counter sample and the base cabinet paint.

I also bought some lighting at the Restoration Hardware outlet. This week, we're talking to another general contractor and hopefully visiting one cabinet maker. I'm feeling like we're making progress.

We brought home a load of cabinets Saturday evening, as many as would fit in the back of the truck.

Left my horse trailer so another load could be ready to bring home in the morning :-)

We chipped up our floor in the living area, went to IKEA and decided on using IKEA boxes, picked out all the bathroom EVERYTHING, drew out and finalized our cabinet plan on the concrete slab.

We got our kitchen floor done! The kitchen isn't so much of a renovation as a face lift. We started doing things bit by bit last October. So far, we have replaced the countertops with granite, installed a silgranite sink, replaced the under counter oven, put in a new induction cooktop, stripped the wallpaper off the walls (that is when we realized why we had wallpapered in the first place - very uneven walls), skim coated the walls, painted walls and ceiling, moved the plate rail, applied word wall art, put a border above the chair rail, got new prints and other decorative accessories, and this weekend got the flooring installed. It is a high end resilient flooring that coordinates very well with the granite counters. We still need to have the landing by the side door and the stairs done but that will be next weekend. DH is finishing up the trim and as soon as we can find appropriate floor glides for my kitchen chairs, we can move things back into the kitchen. Today, when I looked at the kitchen, I realized that the only things that we kept from when we totally gutted the kitchen 18 years ago were the backsplash, the cabinets and the hood vent. We will probably be looking at replacing the hoodvent in the near future as well. Can't wait to be completely done.

The base cabs on the range/sink walls will be Ball Green. Which is weird because it was the first sample I put up and dismissed. It was still looking splotchy so I did another coat, and now it looks amazing. Very moss green...earthy and comfy.

I haven't decided on the uppers with glass on the sink wall and the cabinets on the range wall. Some pale cream color. I'm going to look again at FPE.

The walls are going to be either Farrow's Cream or Green Ground. My kitchen is going to either be warm/inviting/quirky or just plain weird. I'm really hoping it's the first!

I stuffed new cupboards today! A bit of finish work tomorrow and hook up a new circuit and then maybe done for a while. I'll probably take the summer off and then either paint a color or paper next fall. I need to live in this space for a while to know what it needs. In the meantime it's white with lots of wood. I'm going to play musical tables one night this week to see what works. I'm so hoping my 42 inch round oak table will not be a traffic hazard. If it is, I have a 42x24 old porcelain top table with original paint wood legs. And if that doesn't work I'll be stopping at the second hand store and the "antique" store. It feels Gooooooooood!

We have a GC and while many people can get away with doing some work on the weekends, our neighbors are really awful and complained to the city when we had a worker at the house. No work allowed in our city on Saturdays by anybody but DIYers. If a paint truck pulls up in front of my house on a Saturday, my neighbors make a call. Highly uncooperative! Our current neighbor in our "rental" has workers all day Saturday making progress (in the same city), but we don't care, so they get to make progress!

Warmfridge and I had the same task this weekend.....lighting with no luck.

Ask me again Friday--cabinets to be installed Tuesday!! Looking forward to some progress!

Saturday I swapped out a fixed skylight for and electric venting one and added a second electric venting skylight next to it.
Today, replaced the plywood floor sections I'd ripped up for plumbing and electrical. Worked on re-locating the whole home audio system too.

Finished painting the kitchen walls. Now, sanding and painting paneling.

Did some tests of stained paneling for dh - the "you're going to paint the wood?" guy. He agreed it looked terrible with the floor. Tried limed pine - the effect is quite easy to produce but didn't care for it a lot. Now, its becoming the green paneling. Because of limited drying space, it's my hobby for the next week.

We had a very productive weekend!

Finished installing baseboards.
Installed glass in cabinet doors and added the glass shelves. Cleaned glass for hours!
Settled on crown molding and installed it.
Installed sink, garbage disposal, and dishwasher...all work great, no leaks :o)
Started to plan trim for island.

The only thing I did in my kitchen was wash the dishes. I have had cabin fever SO bad this winter and the weekend was gorgeous. I stayed outside and built the 10' x 29' deck that I have wanted for such a long time. Still have to do handrails and the roof, but the deck part is done. I spend some time on it Sunday, reading a book and relaxing.

Love this thread, because we did such an insignificant thing, but it made me soooo happy. Toe Kick things installed. Since we painted our oak cabinets white, the toe kicks were still dark--finally got the white ones installed. And also the ones on the new stained cabinets were installed.

And we started our baseboards!

And of course went to Lowes and bought all the stuff for the backsplash installation that probably will happen this coming weekend. Yay

We are in a hold position -- have most of the decisions made, and have an appointment for demo mid-April with cabinet and counters scheduled for first week of May.

Having made most of the decisions leaves me with time . . . that I find myself in front of the computer and this forum, looking for something I forgot.

I found my pulls on Ebay for a good deal less than anywhere else, which allows me to get the ones I really want vs the Ikea ones that were second choice. My husband asked me to stop looking and just keep with the choices that I've made and he's jiggy with . . . . . those few extra bucks may make me feel ok to get the Kobe hood, rather than the Zephyr . . . . .

Now I'm going to ebay to order those pulls!

The contractor sent over one of his guys on Saturday to finish the pantry shelves - we had to get mad at him on Friday over not finishing for that to happen. He did a good job, and was done shortly after noon. The cabinet maker came as well, and got us to the point where we can put everything away. He did take a few pieces for refinishing. Also, we had an appliance mover come, and move our new freezer from its temporary home in the basement to its permanent place in the pantry.

We spent the rest of the weekend loading up the pantry - twice. Once to get everything in, and once to re-arrange a lot of it. We also got almost all of the dishes put away. Granite is supposed to be installed on Tuesday, but we're just about completely back in the kitchen.

What kind of lighting are you looking for? I've seen about a million lights so far.

We spent the weekend painting but not the kitchen. Instead we needed to do the front hall (both up and downstairs) as we had it modified into a cathedral ceiling at the same time we were having the kitchen gutted.

My cabinets are mostly installed but no doors/drawers or shelving yet.

I am really stuck on lighting as well. Going with 3 pendants over island in either clear or white glass but can't figure out what to do over kitchen table. Traditional chandelier (DH doesn't like) or something else?
Since it needs to blend with pendants, I am waiting on ordering them. Any ideas?

I went to a local tile/decorating store and got some tile samples for our backsplash, but as we haven't picked our granite, it seems a little silly. Love the stuff from Sonoma tileworks and some gorgeous slate/glass mosaic (but don't know the manu'r).

Stressing out over lighting. No island and will have cabinets over peninsula so stuck with recessed and undercabinet lights in kitchen - not replacing the horrible fan light that is there now. Considering Pottery Barn's Moravian star light for over my sink, but not sure it's appropriate. Need something there and for over the table in our little Nook that will now be open to the kitchen on one side and to our living room on the other side and out to a new deck w/ french door on a third side! Can't find anything that hits me. Thoughts?
