let's talk about scratching posts

It is time to replace my scratching post again. I've always gotten the sisal rope ones with the ball attached to the top. By the way does sisal have a long or short I sound? I always feel like I'm saying it wrong. Anyway, what is your (cat's) favorite scratching post. I've purchased the cardboard with the catnip in it as well, but it makes a mess and doesn't last any time at all. Just wondering if the carpeted kind are better... I don't have any experience with those.

What do you think?

Thanks!
