Hi Ellen- If you're not worried about the $20, it can't hurt to try it. I've seen those, and from what I understand, they are "ok" little cameras with no frills. They even have them in the kids section. I've never tried them, but they can't be any worse than what people take with a cell phone. Having said that, I've seen several types of cameras for just a little more that and are very decent. Target is VERY good about sales, and you can usually tell when a camera is about to come out with a new model there because the sales get deeper & deeper. Seems to me I saw one the other day that was 79.99 or so. That's what I paid for my Lumix just before they came out with a new model a couple years ago. If you're simply looking for a beginner's camera, or a "nothing fancy" model that will take decent pictures for home use, there's no need to spend over $100, since what is available at and under that price are quite good for general point & click picture-taking. There's usually a sale on some model going on so you don't have to pay too much. The learning curve to the whole uploading & posting thing is minimal, since your new camera will likely come with software, and even if it doesn't, your computer will likely have something on it to get your pix uploaded for you. There are a number of photo hosting sites out there; I personally use Photo Bucket, and find it very easy to use. Oh, here's a thought: Google that camera model you saw and add the word 'review' to the end of your search text to see if anyone has opinions on them. If you can't remember the model, I bet a search for "cheap digital camera review" or "$20 digital camera" would also work to find you some information. And if you're really into looking up user review type stuff, I bet there's a photography forum (google that term) somewhere that you might find answers, too. Good luck!

What you've mentioned is one reason why people buy single bowl sinks - with a double bowl sink, there is one side without the disposal, and it's an extra chore to dump out the slimy strainer from the non-disposal drain. Yet things may still go down that non-disposal drain that could cause a clog. Also, with a two-bowl sink, whichever side you end up putting the disposal in, you will be doing something where you wished the disposal were on the other side, whichever that is. I couldn't tell from your post whether you are shopping for a sink. If you are, consider a single bowl sink to eliminate the problem that you brought up. There are other advantages to a single bowl sink, mostly that it is large enough to set down baking pans and sheets, or wash pots without banging into a divider.

He always told us never put any peels down the disposer, except lemon or orange, or grease and to always use cold water and let it run for a few minutes after you turn the disposer off. Good enough advice to repeat. We put lemon or lime skins in about once a week. I only run it after the end of filling the dishwasher. If the lemon skins have not cleared completely in 2 days I'll put a couple pounds of ice cubes in. That always clears away the lemon skins. Nothing sharpens the blades because there aren't any blades. There are hammers that pulverize the food and press it into holes on the sides of the disposer. Pull out the black rubber stopper and peek in with your flashlight. The so called sharpeners do nothing but remove gunk from the hammers and the holes.

When I had that issue I installed an air gap in the sink which solved the problem. It will give you the look and functionality of Jake The Wonderdog's diagram. First the plumber would use a hammer and screw driver to tap out the cap (or plug) that is inside the black tube sticking out from the garbage disposal. Then the plumber would run a hose from the black tube on the garbage disposal up to the air gap which would be mounted on the sink. Then he would connect the dishwasher drain hose to the other side of the air gap. The air gap will prevent any chopped up food from the garbage disposal from draining back (back flowing) into your dishwasher. The air gap prevents a direct connection between the garbage disposal and the dishwasher drain. In some states like California air gaps are mandatory for health reasons. It looks like you have a stainless steel sink. You might need to make a hole in the sink so the air gap can fit into it. Here's how to make the perfect sized hole. First decide where you want to locate the air gap on the sink and mark the location. Then use a #1 Step Drill Bit to drive a pilot hole into the sink where you want the air gap located. Then there is a metal punch tool that Ikea sells that will cut a perfect sized, round hole for the air gap to go into the stainless steel sink. There is a bolt that connects the top half of the metal punch to the bottom half. Run the bolt through the pilot hole and connect the top half of the punch to the bottom half. Tighten the punch with a wrench until it cuts a perfect round hole in the sink. If you go to the Ikea store to buy the tool then take the Article Number 285.121.00 so they can help you find it at the store. After the plumber cuts the hole in the sink then have him file down or sand down any sharp edges on the new hole. Once you have the right tools it's a quick fix. It only takes about an hour to cut the hole in the sink, install the air gap, pop out the drain plug in the garbage disposal and connect the hoses.
