I certainly wouldn't think it would be trying to call attention to themselves. It 'could' be they are drawing attention to something they are saying, or the way they are saying it...

For some reason, we usually have to change the subject line when replying to the same post more than once, or the reply will be rejected.

I assume that some may just add a few random letters in the middle since it's fast and easy.

Do you mean in the subject of posting? If so it's because after you've posted once and you want to post again sometimes you have to change the subject line or it will reject your second post.

To change the subject in a post after you have already posted all you have to do is change one letter, make it a small letter or a capitol. That way it won't be rejected.

Thanks Patti and Nicole. I know that Garden Web keeps changing. Sometimes I have to delete a letter to reply to a post more than once and sometimes I don't.

I wonder why it's sending me copies of the replies. I didn't click the box for it to send them.

I don't recall ever seeing that many extra letters; maybe one or two for emphasis.

When I want to post a second message, I add one slash mark / That is all.

I agree that the reason is so an additional response to a particular post is not rejected.

Personally, I think adding more than just one letter or character is excessive. It's just as easy to add only one discreet letter or symbol vs. "laying on the keyboard" causing a bunch of nnnnnnnnnnnnnn's to appear! It makes the post look silly or childish.

I've tried changing just one or two words and it didn't work. I usually just delete all but the defining word and go with that.

I was referencing the additional letters that are typed into the "Subject of Posting". (That means the title, nanny09...right back at ya!!!)

Actually, I did "get that", but had just looked at those adorable puppies and wanted to put lots of "0000000's" (like puppy hugs and kisses). And it is good to know that you CAN just miss-spell or add one letter to those subject lines....I am always stumped as to how to change them. Nanny

I think sometimes it's because like in Liz's post about Serious Awwwww Factor, it's because usually if someone verbally says Aw...it's usually drawn out, like Awwwww..how cute!

Just fyi, according to the emails I received about this today I'm not the only one who thinks it's for that reason.

Clearly the OP and some people on this thread care.

I think that whether a message is posted or rejected seems random. But because it sometimes rejects a message based upon how many times you've posted, yes, the subject has to be changed. Some people make a minor change until it takes. Some people exaggerate it to make sure it takes.

Seems a little excessive to me, too, but it gets the job done, I guess.

Changing a word or letter doesn't always work for me either, Pris. Then other times I forget I need to change something and it doesn't reject it. Go figure!

I've found that it's been a while since I've posted, I can post on the same thread again, without changing anything. On the other hand, it I'm trying to "host my post" and continue trying to post within minutes of each time, I need to change something in the title to make it go through!

Posting almost anything on a forum is done to call attention to oneself. Going on to post how one receives emails agreeing with them is calling attention to oneself. I agree with Minnie Tx. So what?

I always just ad another RE: to the subject line and it has always worked for me.

The reject comes if you post twice in a row. If someone posts between, it won't reject. The reason for it is to eliminate people hitting the submit button multiple times and posting the same thing multiple times in a row.

The easiest and cleanest thing is to put a space between any of the title words. That doesn't look goofy and keeps the same subject. And I think they eliminate the extra spaces since it doesn't seem to show.

I don't understand the multiple odd characters being put in there other than by odd characters!

If you try to answer twice to a post in the same day, the second try will be rejected. Often, the second reply is a legitimate second thought. A small change in the subject line will permit the second reply. I usually add a dash number, for example, -2, to indicate its my second reply.

I've seen people here annoyed/angry with the following: spelling errors on posts, grammar errors on posts, people who disagree with them on posts, slang used on posts, people who post things someone finds offensive, people who post something too controversial, people who like Jon and Kate, people who hate Jon and Kate, people who like the Duggars, people who hate the Duggars, people who make too many posts, people who don't come back to respond to posts...etc..etc..etc...

I just figure everything written is going to annoy someone, LOL. You can't please everyone.
