Wow! Earrings a Fashion No No ?!
Comments (46)Watched the video of "Dad," Moonshadow. I can only say that if she were my daughter, no matter how gorgeous, maybe especially if she were quite gorgeous, she'd be volunteering at the soup kitchen & the hospital & she'd have a list of books to read (from me, not school) & we'd be discussing the flood in Pakistan, & the earthquake in Haiti. I know all girls love the fantasy of being a model. But as their parent, as an adult who knows better, you lead them by the hand into more substantial turf. You teach them that their value does not reside in their physical appearance, even if they happen to be stunning. You guide them to have an interest in the world & to see that it does not revolve around them. Any 14 yr. old is self-centered. At this stage of her development, encouraging so much focus on her looks & on externals, will probably result in her growing up to be a very narcissistic person who has little empathy for others....See MoreSchonbek crystal chandelier advice
Comments (8)BUMP So we found a beautiful chandelier locally- Trilliane. Incredibly pretty. The sales person and owner of the small local lighting company told us that it is similar to the much larger version of Trilliane that he placed in his new home. He had a Spectra model on the showroom floor. It is the correct size for our dining room. However, he stated that he saved up for three years to buy the Elements model for his own home and he suggested that for the money it was worth delaying the purchase and waiting to come back and buy the Elements version if our budget allowed. His price is extremely good, but still ridiculously expensive. Can anyone comment on whether the coating on Elements crystal is that much more brilliant and refractive than Spectra? Really looking for some assistance here. It's a big purchase. Thanks!...See MoreWill a beautiful crystal and brass chandelier work or clash?
Comments (13)I have mixed metals and I would probably use the chandelier but take one element of the other hardware and move it to a warmer color to make it seem planned -- or at least more mixed and less of a one lone duck sticking out. The cabinet hardware or sliding rails could change most easily -- and be changed back if you decide the chandelier doesn't do what you hopeed it would. They don't have to match the fixture -- just tie in -- aged brass or bronze. If not one of those, pick up some brass in one or two accessories in the room. And don't hang the chandelier too high like you are trying to hide it. If you do it, embrace it. And photos would help. By the time you get them, perhaps you will know better which way you want to go without asking us. Have fun....See Moretraditional style crystal chandeliers
Comments (20)Okay, I signed out of gardenweb and signed back into the site directly via my bookmark and there's no provision to change any display of posts. However, when I go back to Home Forums and select Home Decorating, that first page gives me the option of changing the display---I have to open it as a new session, almost. However, when I did that my view was already set to "latest activity," so I am not sure what to make of that. Clearly it does NOT show the latest activity because I had to post three times in quick succession in order to get it to the top of the list. there still may be some other metric involved. Regardless, everyone should realize that these threads sink much more quickly than they did on gardenweb, partly because there are fewer posts but also because of the forum design....See Moreawm03
