Backup sump pump

Does anyone out there have a backup sump pump? Our sump is usually dry, but we've had an unusual couple of weeks of steady to heavy rains, and the sump was filling rather quickly for a while. It got me thinking that if the power had gone out (which usually happens when it rains, right?), the basement could have gotten pretty wet.

Our sump is in an area of the concrete floor that's recessed about an inch or so, and there's a floor drain in the recessed area. But if the power went out and the drain didn't drain so well, we could have a lot of water in the basement.

I've heard of battery powered backups that last more or less overnight before the battery dies, and I've heard of water pressure driven backups that operate off of city water pressure.

Does anyone know how much these things cost, and what the pros and cons might be? Do I even need one?

Thanks,

Jeff J
