Question for Pool Builders

Well, tomorrow is the big day when all the action starts and I have a question for Pool Builders. I will not be home all day (I leave at 630 am and generally do not return until 6:30 pm). My husband will be home most days because he works from home, but is gone for two days every other week. I would like to do something for all the people that will be working on our pool, but am not sure if it is appropriate. I was thinking about leaving a cooler of bottled water, sodas, etc and maybe a covered plate of snacks like cookies or brownies each day. Please tell me if this is stupid or not. I just feel badly that I will not be around to offer any type of hospitality personally. I thought about leaving coffee too, but the cream and sugar could be a challenge since we live in Florida and still have heat and bugs (at times). Right now it is a bit chilly and damp.

Also, will the PB need access inside our home on the few days we are not home? We introduced our neighbors to our PB and now he is building their pool as well and it will be at the same time. She is a stay at home mom so we could give her a key if you think they may need into any electrical, etc. I would ask our PB, but I did not think of all of this until just now and he has been out of town doing continuing education all last week.

Any other suggestions anyone has as to how to help the progress go as smoothly as possible, I would love to hear them. I would much rather be proactive and remove any possible roadblacks.

Congratulations on the new pool. You do not have to leave any types of refreshments for the workers but any thing you do leave will be most appreciated IÂm sure. I would not go to a lot of trouble baking things a cooler of water and soda would be nice and would probably make the guys working "go the extra mile".

As for getting in the house the electrician will need to get in to hook-up power and run any type of indoor controller. As far as the other subcontractors or workers they may need to get in if they trip a breaker or a GFCI.

Hope this helps. I know that when my guys are working anything like a soft drink always goes a long way.

All crews usually have a water cooler.
Hydration drinks like Gatorade are the best things to leave out for workers. I'll typically drink water from the cooler instead of having a Soda left for us.

I was reading this thread and noticed someone posted about calling Caribbean Blue Pools and Spas without delay. I too was shopping for a pool, started to do some research, and came across their internet advertisement claiming they are the number 1 landscape architecture firm in New Jersey. What I can't understand though is when I started looking at Caribbean Blue Pool's and Spas landscaping pictures, I found that they were showing landscaping pictures done by scenic landscaping.If you go to the bottom of Caribbean Blue Pools and SpaÃ¯Â¿Â½s landscaping page which just so happens to be titled Scenic Landscaping Outdoor living:http://www.caribbeanpoolsspas.com/gallery.html and open up any of the landscaping pictures you will see they give credit to Scenic Landscaping. I don't understand why Caribbean Blue Pools and Spas who "does it all" include landscaping featuring a competitors portfolio on their web site? I also googled their so called staffed landscape architect (NJ Landscape Architect Marc Nissim RLA CLA NJS50096900) and found out he owns his own design firm www.hdglandscape.com/information.html. I've found there are several swimming pool companies in New Jersey who actually do it all. If you live in Central New Jersey including Mendham NJ You can try calling Ivy Construction, Inc./Ehrich & Ehrich Landscape Architects, Inc. in Cranbury, NJ or Beechwood Landscape Architecture and Construction, LLC in Southampton, NJ From Northern New Jersey there is B & B Pool and Spa in Chestnut Ridge, NY, Stephen J. Miller Enterprises in Mahwah New Jersey or Cipriano Custom Swimming Pools & Landscaping also in Mahwah NJ. I live in Mendham New Jersey and I know all of these swimming pool companies service my area.

Our pool isn't quite finished yet but we are also using Jay at Sundancer. Jay is excellent to work with and the rest of the Sundancer employees have and are doing a supurb job. We just had our coping and RBB finished in stone and it looks fantastic! We were amazed when the Sundancer stone artisan unexpectedly cut round stone covers for our skimmer basket and autofill so we don't have to use those white plastic covers. It really looks sharp! Amazing attention to detail! We have friends and neighbours who have used Jay and all rave about his work. It would definately be worth your while to check with him and see if he is willing to go up to Orange Cty.

How Many LED Lights Do We Need?

We are building a classic rectangular shape 16 x 33 and our PB also said one LED would be best (Jandy Watercolors). He thought because it's straight 2 lights would make it too bright, but said a free form would prbly need 2. He also said the Jandy light is brighter than the Hayward or Pentire though. I called Jandy and they thought 1 was the right choice. The specs on it were 25 feet straight and 18 on the sides. Both did say there would be some shading in the shallow end but would still be lit. I think the color interior also makes a difference too. We should be up and running in 2 weeks but won't know for sure until then.

I have read where people are really unhappy with their poolbuilders, but mine was great. Ocean Blue Pools built my pool in 2002 and it is still beautiful. When we decided to build, Ocean Blue Pools was definately not the cheapest but you definately get what you pay for. Our HOA was being difficult about our easement and OBP was great about working with them and coming up with a compromise. They were prompt about completion. Even with rain delays and neighbor issues they finished quickly with very little mess. When they finished they relandscaped the backyard and replanted trees we didn't want to loose in the front. Our neighbor was a little testy about the backhoe tracks between our houses and Baron found out he was about to buy a pallet of grass and gave him two pallets of grass as compensation for the inconvenience. We have had very few problems with our pool since it was built, but when we have called OBP with questions and concerns, they responded quickly and even came out to show me how to maintain the pool when our pool maintenance company walked off unexpectantly after 3 years. The key to having few issues with your pool is hiring a great company to maintain the pool. We started with a polaris pool cleaner, which was great, and lasted for 6 years. In the last year, we have been alternating between two Hayward pool cleaners. I will definately work on affording another polaris.

On my jobs I usually buy lunch during different phases of the job, like gunite or a deck pour, etc. They appreciate it and as Jody said, they "go the extra mile"

The only times access to the house is needed if you have hardwired controls, door alarms and preplaster inspection if door alarms are required.

Well, they started yesterday. I ran out and got a container of cookies and gatorade to go with the water. The gatorade was a big hit, but I forgot to put the cookies outside so the dog got those and was happy too. It was pretty chilly yesterday so I should have put out some coffee anyhow, but did not think of it until later. All is going smoothly except for the dent they put in the side of the house. It is not big and it was an accident that I am sure will get fixed so I am not worried about it. If I get home before dark anytime soon, I will try to take some pictures to post.

by anyone in the construction business than cookies

Yeah, I don't think I'd want the workers under the influence while building my pool!
