that is exactly the reason my roomba is sitting in the closet and won't come out. I have an older one and looked on ebay the other day and I think they are coming down for mine. I even called one of the battery places that remakes the batteries and they were still high.

I bought a new battery a couple months ago and was so ticked that it wouldn't charge. I wanted to do some research on the problem and went to take the battery out to find the exact Roomba model number when I discovered that the battery was not completely seated in the battery compartment even though it looked flush to the body. An extra push and it seated properly. I put it back on the charger and by the next day my little guy was working just fine and has ever since.

I saw a Roomba on HSN yesterday that could be programmed to clean 4 different rooms while the human was away from home. What my question is, how much dog hair would the dirt compartment hold? I think after if made one sweep through one room it would be full and then what would happen if no one was there to empty it? I don't have a Roomba, had considered buying one, but then after thinking about the dog and cat hair I decided I'd better save my money, and now after finding out the batteries are so expensive I know a Roomba is not in my future!

We gave up on the Roomba. It was a fun toy at first, but those little brushes don't clean as well as a full size vaccuum, in my opinion.

The first one quit working after a few months and it was under warranty so they replaced it. The second one quit working again, and the warranty was only good for one replacement, so I gave up on it.

We have 8 cats, so perhaps there was too much fur, even though we religously cleaned it after each use.

I'm much happier with my Dyson, although I have to admit the Roomba was easier because I didn't have to push it around the room!

I got my new battery from ebay, if you just type in Roomba in the search thing batterys will come up to.

I love my Roomba. I got it from our kids. It sure works well for me. No carpet here, but really helps me with my bad back. I would like to have the Scooba too. Maybe one day I will.

I got a new battery last year...after I discovered that a visiting toddler had found my Roomba and took it off the charger and the battery had depleted after a few days of being off the charger. It would not recharge.
Anyway, the new battery works and I also got a replacement kit for some of the other parts...because I love my Roomba!

Mine is in the closet too. Won't work, too expensive to throw away. I consulted with the Roomba people and jumped through their hoops to check it out, and they said the whole machine needs replacing. WHAT????? I'm so disappointed because it was helpful, especially for cleaning under the beds.

I wish everyone who has one sitting lonely and forgotten in a closet would just send them to me. I'd name it, get it "fixed", and give it a loving home. And my little Scooter would have a friend. :-)

One of the gals in my book club kept hearing me brag about Scooter so she finally broke down and bought one for herself. She sent out birth announcements to everyone and then asked me if we could set up a "play date" with Scooter. LOL

You can do some research on the net and find forums and sites that discuss Roomba problems and how to fix them. Even how to make cheaper battery packs. You can also buy battery packs that last a lot longer because they use a different type of battery.

I donated my Roomba to a local animal shelter for a yard sale. It worked fine, but since I retired I have time to either vacuum or dust mop the house every day and really don't need it.

dee 1 - If you have a lot of pet hair it will stop when it gets too full ( I think that's what happened when mine got too full, but my memory isn't all that dependable ), so it won't do you much good.

I used to use mine to clean the kitchen floor after supper while I was cleaning the stove and counter tops and doing the dishes.

Mine is sitting alone in the closet, too, but back when I used it, it wouldn't work one day and I was ticked off. I went to the Roomba site and they had a FAQ or something for problems and it told how to reset it and I followed the instructions and it worked fine after that. I think I unplugged it, took the battery right out, let it sit for a while, put it all back and charged it up again. Then it was great.

If I didn't have all these throw rugs for the dogs I would use it more. It's too much trouble to pick everything up so the thing can run around, if I have to pick up the rugs, I may as vacuum, too.

I use mine for in between vacuuming. I use a canister vacuum on the tile once a week before mopping. Any additional vacuuming is left to the roombas. I have 2! I had just replaced the battery on mine (thru amazon-this battery lasts longer too-I think it was $42), then I found a clearanced roomba at kmart for $30. I couldn't leave it there for that price. Now I run both at the same time LOL!

Seriously if you have a roomba and need a battery there are options available.

Irobot has 3 different batteries for the 400 or discovery series Roombas, The original 3300 mah battery the APS is $69.99 it charges in under 3 hrs and lasts approximately 2 hrs per charge.
the 2200 mah bettery is $59.99and charges in about 2 hrs and lasts about an hour and a half
then there is a 1800 mah battery for $49.99 and ic lasts between 45 min and an hr after a 2 hr charge time.
You can call and order by phone or you can order online at the Irobot website. A referral email will also get you 10%
discount of the merchandise amount.
Buying one on Ebay may not get you a new battery and it most certainly will not be under warranty from Irobot so if you are prepare to lose all your money with one bad seller do the Ebay thing. I would rather pay the for a new and good one from Irobot with the warranty and return options available.
I love having the little guys around. I don't ever worry about vacuuming or sweeping so I can run barefoot in my house. My oldest one is nearly 3 years old, still has the original battery and working fine.
The newest Irobot 500 series does'nt get tangles in the throw rugs or cords so no more picking those up and there is a trade in program if you are a registered 400 owner you can get a discount of up to 30% for a new model. The battery last longer per charge and charges even faster than the APS from the 400 series.

I replaced the battery on mine, only to discover there was nothing wrong with the old one. A friend of mine discovered this website, ran the diagnostic on my unit. Works like a million bucks now.

When the battery wasn't working on mine it was because it wasn't seated properly too.

My 2 will join you alls in the closet. Both were fairly new when they stopped working and I was so fed up after the second one that I didn't bother with them anymore. They look pristine and it's a shame.

In my and jodi's vocabulary "fixed" means to... put into working order. It usually doesn't take much to do so with a roomba.
I have found most people who are complaining about the roomba not working are not following the instructions or have put it together improperly. I got one from a yard sale for $10.00 The previous owner had nothing good to say about the poor thing. I spent 15 minutes and no more money putting the brushes and battey in correctly,
charged the battery for 24 hrs and had a perfectly running nearly new (used for about a month) roomba. One that sold originally for $379.00 I sold it to a neighbor for $150.00 Nice profit margin for me because someone wasn't bright enough to follow the instructions or call the Tech Support line.

I wish the roombas could procreate.
