LOVE IT!! Question though - what is NPTG StoneScapes Mini Pebble?? We're going with SunStone Pearl and are trying to decide on a color - have you heard of that co? Do you like the finish you have (texture wise)?? LOVE the oasis!

Certainly looks like a Fishtail (Caryota mitis). They do form a pretty dense clump. I've not had the roots of mine get into any mischief. They're probably a lot less messy than a lot of other palms. The fronds stay on for a long time. They are invasive though, birds carry the seeds around and spread them.

Ina Garten's shortbread is very good. You can jazz it up with some lemon zest (my favorite), chopped dried fruit (cranberries are good), nuts or dipped in chocolate as above in Ina's recipe from rob333. I tend to use her recipe more for tart crusts since it's a bit more stable than my own shortbread cookie recipe. This is the shortbread recipe I've used for cookies forever. I've done lots of testing, and shortbread just tastes better with salted butter IMO (my apologies to the baking police). You can roll these out thinner if you like. I prefer them a little thicker. I always use a small, star-shaped cookie cutter for these at Christmas. Just like Ina's, you can jazz these up. I often double the recipe. Shortbread Cookies Note: The flour/cornstarch can be replaced with 2 cups of cake flour. Sprinkling the cookies with sugar is optional. 2 cups flour 2 T. cornstarch Pinch salt 1/2 cup plus 2 T. powdered sugar 2 sticks salted butter, room temperature 1/2 tsp. vanilla First, remove 2 T. from the 2 cups of flour and replace with the 2 T. cornstarch. Mix salt with flour/cornstarch. Cream butter, sugar and vanilla. Add dry ingredients and mix until just blended. Form into ball and wrap in plastic. Chill for about 30 minutes to an hour. Preheat oven to 325. Roll dough out on lightly floured surface to about 3/8- to 1/2-inch thickness. Cut out shapes with about 1 1/2-inch cookie cutter. Place on parchment lined cookie sheet and bake about 20 to 25 minutes. Watch carefully, you want them to just barely get color (depending on your oven, you may need a little less or more time). Remove from oven, sprinkle with fine or granulated sugar, let sit for about 10 minutes, and remove to rack to cool.

I'm replacing the pool motor, and never wired up the 2 speed aspect of my motor, which I now intend to do oen way or the other. So, I have the following, hopefully, simple questions: 1. Since this Emerson motor EB-982 is designed to have one of the Line voltage 220s, L1, on EITHER the high speed, OR the low speed lugs in the motor, I'm assuming that: a. you can't connect that L1 220 line to BOTH high and low lugs at the same time -- right? b. You CAN, while the motor is spinning in one of the two speeds, SWITCH the L1 from low to high, or high to low, without stopping the motor, using some switch/ relay c. I cannot leave power applied to the L2 side of the motor if L1 is not connected to the high or low speed lugs On the timeer, I wanted to see if I could use what I have, and add as little hardware as possible. Unfortunately, Intermatic 104s don't come with a complete schematic for us electronics guys. What I couldn't find on anyone's site, or on the company's website, how ALL the switches are wired to the lugs! For instance, Lug "A" --- WHAT is IT wired to?? the only reference I find is this: " "277/480 VOLT CONNECT MOTOR LEADS TO TERMINALS "A" AND 1 AND SUPPLY NEUTRAL TO TERMINAL "A" " I know how the other lugs are wired to which switches, because it is shown. But some parts of many devices must be deemed to be "common knowledge" to electricians, NOT showing how some parts are wired into the whole system, leaving us electronics guys that can fix TVs and computer, totally in the dark!! Anyway, ignore my rant, but this one bugs me --- I know I can either take it apart or test it with an ohm meter to figure it out. But it sure seems that it should be clear what that lug goes to. StoneScapes is a mini pebble finish similar to Pebble Sheen. I have heard of Sunstone Pearl. It too is a aggregate finish. I think the only difference is that is is mixed with Portland cement (white) vs. colored plaster. All these alternative finishes use either stone aggregate or quartz to add texture, color and stability over standard plaster.

The key is to see them in person and trust the installer. If you have access to Pebble Tech or Pebble Sheen, I would prefer them over any finish. Our builder's plaster sub only did Stonescapes so we went that route. We love the look and texture.

The only thing I may have changed was to put small tiles on the spa seat. The pebble finish pulls the hair on my legs a bit.

Looks like the kids are keeping the installer in line. I wouldn't mess around with two kids eager to swim!

LOL,,,if you need a good construction supervisor, I have two. They were tough. They pointed out every little problem but they were also the first to bring out drinks and snacks to the crews who were working very hard................

well except this guy..no treats for him

Rob: You took the best photos during your pool project! They are great--especially the "Sleeping on the Job" one!

I gotta ask, though: How much did Coca-Cola pay you for that "product placement" in the "Two Supervisors" photo...?!? So *that's* how you paid for your pool! ;-D

Where's Waldo?!? Did (s)he/they [didn't you have two rubber snakes?] survive the entire pool project? I remember you saying that the workers threw one over the neighbors's fence.

You are too funny. I tried to get Coca Cola to subsidize but they declined.

Waldo #1 is alive an well. He is being a bit overgrown in a planter but makes an appearance at pool parties. I am afraid that Waldo #2 was sacraficed. We placed him on our roof in an attempt to scare away the birds nesting on the roof. I think they were convinced he was real but rather than fly away, they took Waldo #2 far, far away.

Your pool is as fantastic as I remember and I love the cascade from the Spa...

The frog lamp w/ umbrella looked so familiar that I had to go check that ours was still there! :-) Unbelievable how much light that lamp puts out.

My wife and I disagreed on lighting quite a bit. She thought less was more. I showed her your pool and she agreed, the more the better. She liked two of the fixtures you used so much, we got them. One was the frog umbrella and the other was the pine cone lights. I still wish I put more in.

They also say that impersonation is the best form of flattery. We also stamped our decking and used the same color as yours. We had a really bad case of efflorescense and have waited to seal it until it cools down. We love the look and can't wait to see it sealed.

Beautiful pool! We're new to the gallery....What's the color of your mini pebble? I especially loved the color of your water. I'm leaning toward prism-blue (knock off copy from Kerber Brothers). Thanks!

Our finish is Midnight Blue mini pebble from NPTG Stonescapes line of aggregate finishes.
