Update on Christopher

Thank you for your good thoughts.

Chris called last night about 12:30 am. He was waiting for the doctors to come in his room to put his leg in traction. He's broken his left femur in 3 places - surgery today to have a rod put in from hip to knee. He seemed in a lot of pain, but pretty good spirits.

He's been told no cast - so that's great news for his future plans. I called him again this morning at 6:30 am and his parents had just arrived. I'm glad they're both up there for each other and for Chris.

So, I'm on Mom duty here - with my mom and 2 other nephews. Cancelled the date for Sunday night but in light of other things, that's so minor.

How long does he have to be in traction? That must be horrible. When my husband was really young, 4 or 5, he broke both legs and was in traction. Thought he could fly like Marry Poppins with an umbrella from a 2nd story porch. I have picture of him in traction his dad had sitting on his desk for years now on my dresser.

Hope for a speedy recovery for your nephew. Will he have to be in a wheelchair or will a cast be put on so he can get around?

Oh, poor boy! This will take some time to mend, but he has youth on his side.

When I hear about falls from a height I remember our neighbor who spent two years nursing her son. He'd crashed while hang gliding and broke a leg, both arms and both wrists. Talk about *helpless*!

Why thank you kind sir! Well yes, I do seem to have grown my collection lately, as one does :) I swapped from plumerias to Adeniums and succulents, mainly jades really after losing my last plumie a good while back. The scent of one of those plumeria flowers was amazing, but they just didn't do it for me for a good 7 months....they just looked like sticks! See you around then :) Gill UK

Thanks for all the positive and insightful comments. I spoke with the architect working on the redesign of my 1920s frame vernacular house. He said that he could easily work with the layout to make these fit into my space and he "loves these cabinets" for this particular house. The house had been totally gutted by the previous owner so we have leeway with the kitchen design. I love this forum and have learned so much in the past few months reading about your experiences and recommendations.There was a thread on here that convinced me to buy an O'keefe and Merritt stove, which I am in love with! Another thread warned about the pitfalls of showering in a claw foot tub. Those discussions led me to abandon the idea of installing one since I care for elderly parents. I would not have been able to keep my head during this restoration without you guys. Thanks so much!

Well, latest report - he's back in his room. Very sore and tired. So are Mom and Dad. Sounds like everything went well. I haven't spoken to anyone - these are all facebook updates. It's a good way to reach everyone. Thank you all for the good thoughts and prayers for Chris.
