It's possible that she's upset about not being allowed to go out, but it's also possible that there is something physically wrong with her. It's very common for a kitty to express illness through inappropriate elimination. I recommend you take her to the vet for a thorough check-up.

How old was she when she was spayed?

I adopted her from the Animal Shelter. She was born May 25 and I got her June 2nd. She was spayed already.

I hope there is nothig wrong with her, I'll call the vet.

She was not born May 25th...... I'm looking at the adoption paper and it says May 25th, 11:10am, 2 mths old. So.... that must mean when she was brought in? So if she was 2 mths old on May 25, then her birthday must be March 25th.

LOL! I was worried about the 8 day old kitten!!! I agree, take her to the vet. If there is nothing wrong and she continues to go in a certain spot, sprinkle cayenne pepper in the area. I guarantee she won't go there again and it causes no harm to her.

Shaun, my guess would be that now she has had a taste of the out doors she doesn't want to be cooped up in the house any more and this is her way of telling you.

Abby and Monty were inside cats for the first 18 months of their lives and had only used kitty litter. For the last 4 years they have been allowed outside during the day and now they do all of their stuff outside. I keep a kitty litter box in the house though for Beau. Even if Beau goes out he will come back in to use the kitty litter. As you know, Monty had surgery two weeks ago and isn't allowed out and he isn't happy about it. He begs to go out but when he can't he will use the kitty litter. I set up a second box for him so that he didn't have to use the same one that Beau uses. Abby on the other hand, when she has to stay in she will rebel by occasionally peeing and pooping in one of the bath tubs. Just her way of letting me know she isn't pleased.

That's pretty civilized of your cat to pee/poop in the bathtub when she's annoyed. Don't tell her the carpet or bed would be a lot worse. :)

Hahaha! You all are just so froggin funny.

I fought that problem for 3 years, pooping on carpet only. Always urinated in litter box. It was everything to do with the other cat. The poop cat was the dominant cat. I studied, fought, and tested this problem for so long I was able to predict when the pooping would start again. If the poop cat constantly feared me, and I would yell and get onto her EVERYTIME she wanted to express her dominance by getting into the other cats business, she would NEVER poop on the floor. This would be the case for months if I continued the mean streak with her. I wouldn't let her think for a second she had control of the house or the other cat. Now guess what happens EVERYTIME I let the cats handle their own politics (poop cat bullies the other cat around the food/water bowl, etc.), and I back down and treat both cats equally? It's so predictable. Then and only then will the poop cat start laying her poop next to the water/food stations, and entrance to the cat litter room. Water and food is in multiple places and in different rooms from the litter boxes. She will place a nice load of crap inches from a fresh water/food bowl. Basically, as I back off and allow her to reclaim her dominant status, she starts laying her poop where the other cat has to travel. I have tried everything and talked to a couple Vets, had her checked, etc. Many people insist that cats do not claim territory with poop, but there is something very dominant related about what this poop cat is doing. It sucks but I have had enough. I can, as long as both cats are alive, become a permanent jerk to her, keep her nervous, have her fear to go near the older sub cat, and therefore keep a poop free carpet and home. Or I can be fair, nice and pleasant, stay out of cat politics, and have crap laid out on the floor. Lord knows I tried and this doesn't come easy, but it is time to get rid of her.

In short, if you have tried everything you can think of and you know the cat is physically healthy, Sometimes (my opinion) this problem is just not fixable. Some combinations of cats living together (other animals also) just don't work. I'm no expert but I have consulted with a few, set up Internet video surveillance to observe things when I wasn't present, tried all the ideas you read about, basically been there and done it all. The combination of my two cats simply equals poop on the carpet. I'm sure I am not a unique situation.

No you're not unique. I had that problem with my foster I had for over two years. She'd poop in the powder room and I knew it was her but after all this time , she had a constant battle w/ other females in the house. I finally had enough. I would have kept her but called the group and told them I was done fostering and she went to Petsmart where she was for a month and finally was adopted by a young couple w/ no other cats and is sleeping on their bed w/ them. And the pooping in the powder room stopped when she left.

Could she possibly be constipated? Our boy kitty will do this when he is constipated (not to often, thank goodness). I give him a bit of olive oil in a small oral medicine syringe and it fixes him right up. If this is the issue, the stool will be small "hard" pieces.

I am having a similar issue with my cat, except that it can't be a cat dominance thing - He's our only pet! He is 21 months old, and as long as I've had him he has periodically had bouts of stomach problems, during which he poops on the floor. Up until the last few months, the only time he would poop would be when he was sick. But recently, he has been pooping on the floor even when it is perfectly healthy poop. All the vet will tell me is "He just has a sensitive stomach" and will give me anti-diarrheal pills. I have no idea what to do. I can't take cleaning up cat poop and having my floors ruined forever. Any suggestions?

I hate to tell you but you are fighting a loseing battle.You have to do what's best for you or your house will be the place people will remember by the "smell"I love animals but you have to draw a line.

My cat was born in my daughters bedroom....and when he feels like it he will still go and poo in there even if we are in the house. I think he is just very lazy to go outside. I dont want to re-home him as he is the most lovable cat ever but this problem is leaving me no option. Any idea's before i have to do this?

I dont want to have to get a litter tray as they then become lazy and use it when the door is open.

I also dont want to have to lock them out at night as it's getting very cold outside and i would rather they stay in the warm.

Im at my wits end on what to do !

Kelly are you saying that you have a cat, but you don't have a litter box?

I think the answer is simple, get a litter box.

Is kitten de clawed? Sometimes that makes it painful to dig and use the box, so they just quit trying.
