Q: Fillers/Cabinets Adjacent to Sink Bump Out

I am not sure the correct way to plan this. Our sink cabinet run is open at both ends.

I want to bump out the sink cabinet to 27" deep so it is roomy for the faucet. I placed 3-inch "legs" on each side of the sink for some detail, as well as to widen the run by 6 inches. This is nearly the maximum width for the space. The dishwasher on one side and drawer cabinet on the other.

On a layout like this, where the dishwasher and drawers are setback 3 inches from the sink cabinet, should there be fillers between the "leg" and the dishwasher and other leg and the drawers? If so how wide would the fillers need to be?

You should have "legs" in the center and at the back of the sink cabinet the same width as the front. , The DW needs something to butt up to and the drawer base needs to attach to something. Eventually, it may shift to the left at the back.

Is there an issue with the DW door passing by the "leg" without a filler next to it, at 24 inches deep?

I have a sink bump out with no flutes or columns and I think it looks fine. I don't see why you can't still have a 33" cabinet and just have the posts attached to the exterior front on the cabinet. Isn't that how they do it if it doesn't taper back? The doors will be smaller but the cabinet interior will still be big enough for you to have the sink you want.

Pardon the massiveness (yes I made up that word) :oP of this silly hood but it had to cover a big range: I believe we're 34" off the surface, but since it's just recently been all set up, I'll go ahead and do a measurement for sure and post it this evening. We spent a lot of time on the phone with vent a hood when we had this rebuilt (we ordered a standard 1200 cfm and then took the guts out of the box and had the box rebuilt by a local stainless steel fabricator). We made sure that the power was going to be sufficient and wanted to increase capture space front to back as well as side to side. We couldn't go with a standard US measurement on a hood due to space issues and conversion from the french range size. It's mounted to both the wall and hung from heavy chains wrapped around the beams in the ceiling. Three heavy guys did pull ups from it :) It's not coming down. It was a chore though to see it hung well. It vents out the back through a wall, but it was far too heavy even in it's metal stage to use that as the only support. Then once we applied the marine plywood, plaster, trim and granite detail..well she's a heavy girl :) One thing I did (I hope it shows here...if not I'll take another photo) is to bump out the counter to meet the front of the stove. I did that to avoid the obvious "hip meets square edge" of the stove, and it also serves to keep you from losing an eye on the hood if you're tall enough :) Actually here's a pic that shows the bump out better. Wow! Thanks live_wire_oak -- really appreciate the feedback and ideas. My concern with the stainless (around the cooktop and in the hood) is centered around getting pieces made which are the right size. I'm not sure how to go about finding a local company who can come do the templating. Or, can I simply measure precisely and order online (both ways, after checking references of course)? Other than the effort involved in tracking down someone who can do this correctly (and the wait time for the pieces to be made), I'm fine with the idea of SS around the cooktop (sides, bumpout) and the interior of the hood. Would I just use grout for the 'seams' between the cooktop and the SS and the quartz countertops? (Cooktop will be flush with countertop, not sitting on it). I really like the first tile you show -- if you could possibly provide tile name, that would be great.

Does anyone have a filler pull-out next to the sink base?

I hve 2 3 inch spice pullouts on each side of my bumped out 27 inch deep sink base. Mine were ordered from my cabinet company though. I really like them alot. However, the bumped out sink makes me lose the back 3 inches or so of the pullout on the right since I can't access it from the other side. Not a big deal since the other one is empty. I have small spacers on each side of it since it did seem like it was going to rub on the sides with use. These are not pulled out all the way.

You'll have to install blocking to the back of the leg so you have something to attach the dishwasher side screws to.

And a filler and end panel and blocking to the left of the DW to support the counter. The cabinet to the right needs an extended stile or filler if against a wall. And needs to have a finished end panel if exposed to the room. If this is an island, you've got to account for the plumbing and pony wall to the rear and how to finish that off. If this is in a wall alcove, I'd just make the whole run deeper and skip the posts. They add a LOT of expense and take away usable space.

Thank you for the responses.

I had originally planned to have all the base cabinets 27" deep, however when I tried that size out at a display, it was more difficult to access the wall cabinets above for me.

If we eliminate the "legs" it would also be giving up either 6" of counter, or the symmetry, or we would have to place the 30" sink in a 42" cabinet. Wouldn't that look odd?

Symmetry is way overrated. If this is a single sink kitchen, ofsetting the sink with the addtional sace to the right for prep is well worth it. 24'' isn't really adequate for a good prep space. Neither is 30'', but it's beter than using skinny 3'' legs. A single 25'' sink will give you ven better prep space, and might be enough to get a pull out trash in the space, depending on the overall measurement.

Thankfully, this 90" cabinet run only shows where a clean up sink will be -- an Orca which I definitely wish to keep (: We will also have an 18" sink on the 4x8 island for prepping.

I guess I'll go have another look at the deeper base cabinets. Thanks again for your thoughts.
