Question about Home depot's stock granit tops
Comments (4)I'm answering both the question here and the one in your other thread. We got one of the stock granite vanity tops from HD and it came with the backsplash (sidesplash extra, but we didn't need one). The colors are very limited, but if you like something they have it's an excellent deal. We got it with a coupon and for a 24" vanity with attached sink it was $176. Now we are doing another bathroom and none of the stock colors would work for us, so we have to go with a remnant from a granite yard. Nicer piece of granite, and got to choose the exact piece, but for a 30" vanity top without sink it is going to be $580. So it will be about $650 with the sink, which BTW is still cheaper than going with special order from Lowes ($699 and up), and you get to pick the exact piece you're getting, so it's worthwhile to get a remnant and have it fabricated....See MoreHome Depot or Lowes--Granite. Pros/Cons?
Comments (23)Timely topic, as I'm right in middle of granite installation now w/HD. I paid back in early Feb, but had delays with new cabinets till now. HD still honored the promo pricing I had at the time of purchase ("D" level granite for "C" level price, plus free undermount sink.) I thought their price was good...I did some research and it seemed in line competitively with what others were quoting....not ridiculously low or high. Someone who works at HD once said they often negotiate really good prices from fabricators since they represent so much volume to a local shop...and if you catch them during a promo, they can offer some pretty decent values, even with their middleman markup. Not saying their price is always best, but wouldn't count them out right off the bat. They definitely let me choose slabs - in fact, they stressed that I must do so to make sure I got what I wanted. Local fabricator they subcontract to has been in business 20 years and granite yard is one of the largest in the nation. Doesn't mean my experience still may not go horribly wrong, but I feel I've covered bases as much as reasonably possible without over-obsessing any more than I already have. (And according to my husband, I'm a big time over-obsesser!) HD does have the 1 yr labor and 15-year stain-resistant guarantee. As someone here mentioned, can't say how well they'll honor guarantee if a problem arises - and I have polished black granite, so I already know I may have specific problems related to that color - but the kitchen/granite places I've checked offer no guarantee at all. So it's something. Chose slab yesterday...install should be within 8-10 days. my fingers are crossed that all goes well. (Tip: one thing I did as soon as I found out who they sub-contracted to was to Google that business's name along with "complaints" in search box, as well as check BBB to make sure there were no red flags. I think the #1 risk with HD all comes down to who they choose do to the work.) Hope this helped someone......See MoreHome Depot or Lowes for cabinets/installation
Comments (9)I agree you have to be careful, as creek_side said. Our Lowes KD was top knotch, informative, helpful and very professional. He spent a ton of time working out every little detail and advised me in things I never would have thought of. He also said he would only let one installer do my kitchen. He admitted that it can be a crapshoot if you just go with comes up on the computer when the order is put in. He kept putting in my order until the right installer came up. And that installer was incredible. I found out he was the top installer and had the highest satisfaction surveyed. It was obvious in his craftsmanship, professionalism and attention to detail, even to the point of doing custom detail work. If you are not comfortable with the people you are working with, you probably won't get what you want. It's the same with big-box or custom cabinetmaker. Do your homework. My GC was blown away when he saw the install, at the quality of the cabinets as well as the quality of installation. He kept asking "Lowe's?"...See MoreHave you had Home Depot or Lowes install an entry door?
Comments (16)Lowes installed my doors. What a cluster of catastrophes, It started with their crew coming out to measure. Then they came back with the windows and doors that THEY measured and the doors were so much smaller than the openings that they looked ridiculous. The doors were Pella wood sliders, very nice, but too small for the openings. I begged them to make the doors bigger, not smaller, but they said they could not. Then they could not find trim to fit the doors, so they left the last trim they bought in my yard to be rained on. As they were preparing to leave, I asked what they were doing with the trim and they told me I had purchased it and I could do whatever I wanted. This was their 6th try at installing said trim, so they never came back. I called and went to the store in Simpsonville, SC every day for weeks. I contacted the CEO of Lowes (not the current one) and he told me Blaine (the fellow in charge of my special order at the store) told them that I had ordered smaller doors to save money! first of all, I begged to make the doors bigger and the larger doors were less money because they were standard size. Now fast forward a few years and the largest set of doors will not even open at all! I had Pella out to my home and they said the doors were installed wrong from the beginning and that they need to take the whole thing out and reinstall. When the doors were first completed I was told that they only needed to be adjusted and I was doing it wrong. Can I sue lowes? Really angry!...See Morei_luv_my_dog
