Ever heard of this tradition?

Heard someone say it's traditional for a wedding to

take place exactly a Year and a Day after engagement...

I've never heard it.

Curious about it's origin and if any of you have

heard it??

Wow, you're good! The 1st link you posted is Legacy Classic, not Legacy Traditions. I still looked to see if I saw the bed they had at The Room Store and they didn't. The 2nd post definitely explains alot. So, it looks like the guy that used to work for Kincaid is now designing the same style of furniture and selling it under the name of Legacy Traditions. I still don't understand why Legacy Traditions doesn't have a website showing their line of furniture. Thanks for the research! Laurie

Only with family members. : ) I think it's great the way folks find things on CL that they can redo but I'm too squeemish. I'd always be wondering about the PO's personal habits. lol! I agree, I think new fabric may be just what you need. Can you post a pic? Or try looking online at chairs of the same style but in various fabrics. That will give you a good idea of how your chair will look in a new fabric. Diana

My mom says not to marry any guy you don't know through all four seasons: football, baseball, basketball and hockey. I have heard of this tradition, but it isn't necessarily one year and one day, it is just right around one year later. We wanted to be married on our 5 year dating anniversary (destination wedding) but that happened to be Easter weekend when prices were tripled, so 5 years and two weeks to the day worked out perfect for us! It fell on a Thursday, but when you are on a beautiful island, who cares!

So, the rebound won't work because my fabricator says it's too much money and she doesn't usually work with that distributor, so it's not as easy to negotiate. That gave me a chance to chime in that I refuse to be punished financially for a mistake that someone else made. Anyway, next up... I still don't know what she'll say about pricing, but she did send me a white mac. from the same place this morning. Why can't I change my post name?? I didn't want to make a new one to keep asking similar opinions/questions.

Never heard that one. My boyfriend asked me to marry him on Christmas, we told everyone right away. We were trying for a wedding date in April but I had just started a new job. So we got married in June, on my DH's father's birthday and the day before my own parents anniversary. Even tho we rushed, the marriage has been a good one, lasted 31 years so far.

News to me, also.

Sue and I got engaged about June (official proposal was above Niagara Falls, late one dark, chilly, windy night - and we quickly got back into the VW bug to return to Ithaca, to move her to Pittsburgh for summer job) ....

... married mid Oct., the next year, in Seoul, Korea.

She said that had I not met her on the dock in Yokohama ... that she'd have gone home to Mother.

Never heard that one, we got engaged on February 1st, married February 27th, lasted 28 years so far!

In the Bible the time of betrothal or being espoused, was long enough to prove that she was not with child.

It goes back to Handfasting. Basically it was the civil ceremony in days of old. Scottish tradition called for the engagement to be a year and a day.

Well Denny and I blew it then...it was only 6 months from the day I met him, and four months after the engagement....Hehe...he didn't want to let me get away...!!!

Hope that doesn't mean our marriage won't last long.

We had a five year courtship. I was only 23 when we met, far too young to get married IMHO. I only wanted to do it once. We will celebrate 28 years in June.

Never heard of this one either. Larry and I met the first of October, engaged the 3rd of February and married June 1st. Been married 42 great years..

I can kind of understand the Biblical link - make sure she's not pregnant.

But I have never heard of this for any modern wedding. Weddings now usually happen on a Saturday. Can't dictate that without some serious planning. Can you see a young man thinking ahead "Oh, I must ask her on thus and such a date because then a year and a day will work for a wedding." Um, NO.

Forward thinking works fine - but I'll guarantee no young man has heard of that particular "custom".

Because even if it once was a custom, it sure as heck isn't now.

Never heard of that custom. Hubs and I were married on the 5th anniversary of the day we started "going together." This month we'll celebrate our 24th/29th anniversary.
