I sold my gold a few months ago. I only sold broken jewelry or things that I knew I would never wear again. (some rings where they removed the stones for me). I brought it to a local jeweler that I have done business with before and trust. For a bunch of unwanted, broken stuff, I got $1500. I was quite happy with that.

I took mine to a local jewelry store too,
and was offered $40 dollars. Put it all
right back in the bag and brought it home.

I did once, but that was probably 12-15 years ago (so the prices weren't where they are now). It was just a few tiny things, so I didn't get a lot of money for them but it was better than having them around collecting dust. I went to a small jewelry store where the owner created his own jewelry, too (I had checkd out a pawn shop, too, but it felt weird to me!).

I think a good point is to find a local place, a jewelry shop, rather than those companies that either come to your town and set up shop in a hotel on the weekend or the ones who say they'll send you a pouch to mail your stuff to them.

I'd like to do it again, because that $%$*@ QVC sucked me into buying some things several years ago, and I'm just "over" wearing jewelry. I haven't even put in my pierced earrings in a while!

I sold some broken chains and rings with damaged stones about 5 years ago on eBay. I was really happy with what I got for them. If I had more to sell I'd probably go that route again.

No, not mine. Gold fillings that were in a cookie tin of buttons that was in a box of odds and ends I bought at an auction.

Don't remember the $$$ I got, but it was enough to buy a ring, and azaleas to line the driveway with.

I need to take the ring and some other rings, etc. and see what I might get for them.

I sold the gold crown that broke off a tooth 3 months ago. I had to have the rest of the tooth extracted and the oral surgery office here has envelopes patients can use to send the gold to a place in Morgan Hill, CA. I got around $15 for it.

Definitely go to a jeweller's. A few months ago, there was a fly-by-nite company at the Holiday Inn for the weekend.

I took my stuff there, and wasn't thrilled with the amount of money they were offering me ($238). Then went to a jeweller who advertises in our paper that he buys gold.

A really nice store, terrific salespeople and the owner is real nice. They offered me $860. Sold! I'll definitely buy from them as well when the time comes.

Gold is the only real money. Paper is worth nothing--unless someone confers some sort of value on it. The government could decide tomorrow our paper money is worthless. Money in the bank or other investments.... well, we all know how volatile that can be.

Gold is the one thing that is and always will be worth something.

No, I haven't sold my old gold jewelry, and no I haven't sold the gold I'm holding as an investment. If worse ever comes to worse, that may be what we have to rely on to put food on the table and pay our bills.

We believe stronly in holding onto any gold we can get our hands on--it's a good investment that will always have some value, and in bad times, it's the one thing that's usually worth a lot.

Sleeper: A follow-up: I was at a mall today (an outlet mall) in Virginia, and as I passed by a jewelry store, I noticed a sign, "We purchase your old jewelry." And in this past weekend's newspaper, there was an ad for another jewelry store saying they buy. So scout out some stores in your area--just phone them, even. It might be really easy close-to-home.

I am going to a home party for gold selling tonight. It is called Purple Creek. You show up at the hosts home and there are snacks and goodies. They write you up what your stuff is worth and if you want to sell they give you a check. I am interested to see how much I get.

bunnylover-I saw a piece on TV just a few months ago about those gold selling parties.Said they are a rip off and don't pay near what the gold is worth.I would be very careful about selling my gold in a setting like that.For one thing,you know they can't give you what it is really worth because THEY have to make money somewhere.You would be better off selling to a reputable jewler,(sometimes even a pawn shop)or to a jeweler that recycles it to make other jewelry with.

Bunnylover, please let us know what they offered you for your gold. I do know that it's over 1000/ounce right now. I think I will bring it to a couple different jewelry stores that I have done business with and see what they offer. I have never seen gold this high before. I used to wear a lot of expensive jewelry, but it rarely comes out of the box anymore. I really like trendy costume jewelry that you can match with your outfits and don't care if you lose an earring or whatever.

I wouldn't want to take a chance on accepting a check at something like that. Who knows if it might bounce
