White or Red QS Oak cabinets or Cherry? May I see yours?
Comments (21)Cheri, your cabinet doesn't look Arts & Crafts at all. The detail work is beautiful. Soapstone with your black range will be gorgeous. I completely understand the dilemma of what kind of flooring. Your black and white tile is very true to the period. I've seen similar patterns in many late 19th and early 20th century courthouses. I am really leaning toward tile, too. Are you putting radiant heating under the tile? Lighting can be tricky if you are going for a period look. I don't think those old kitchens had much light! I am having recessed ceiling lights and a few pendents. I also want a ceiling fan in the kitchen and maybe one in the breakfast room. Good luck with your salvage shopping. It is really fun! My door find was serendipity. I was just going in to browse on a walk around town. Oh, cool, you have back stairs! I will be anxious to hear how you like your layout. I have a window with space between walls similar to yours. Mine is between the clean-up sink/dish storage and the cooking wall. Is your baking hutch by the refrigerator? Gibby, Isn't it fun to have that ah-ha moment? When I first began looking for inspiration kitchens, yours was one of the first I clipped. I still love it! The darker stain color is very pretty, and similar to the color I may do for the island. ccombs, Your floor is gorgeous and so are your cabinets! The rays add a smile to the rift sawn floor. Cherry is beautiful, too. DH has made a lot of cherry furniture for our house. I am still drawn to the depth and beauty of the QS oak....See MoreGray walls with oak trim? Can it work?
Comments (15)Some pics of DS's room (pardon the tween boy mess - I managed to avoid taking pics of the unmade bed). Horizon paint color - I forgot, his trim isn't stained, just beeswax and boiled linseed oil but it's somewhere b/t a "natural" pine and honey. Bunk beds (ignore the box spring underside) in sunlight bookcase - maybe darker pine than bed plus a shadow but I did use flash Desk cubby (dark) and edge of closet trim (beeswax) - I think the flash washed out the side of the closet a little though And, what you were waiting for - he has an oak dresser! This is next to a window, so the paint is under an east-facing window, no light but flash. Finally, here's BM Light Pewter with no stain, poly-only baseboard in bathroom. The colors are pretty true in this pic (a little bit of White Satin showing around the corner to the tub)....See MoreI'm loving these colors! Can I see your 'gray' living rooms?
Comments (15)birdlover6--I just always thought neutrals were boring. Now I see them as tranquil, and as great backdrops for colorful furniture, paintings, etc. Also I moved from an old house with lots of character to a new one. I had it painted before we moved in (big mistake--I should have waited, even though it's more of a hassle) and I guess I thought bright colors would give it personality. I do like some of the colors. A small study is apple green with white molding and built-in bookcases. My bedroom is C2 silk which is a gorgeous blue grey and my bathroom is C2 Mistral a deep greyish purple, and another bedroom is aquarium, a gorgeous C2 green. I wouldn't change any of those rooms. But living room, dining room, foyer, kitchen, and maybe family room (currently yellow) could use a beautiful gray palette....See More(new here w/ Q.) SW Kilim Beige walls w/ what trim?
Comments (6)Sorry, yes the Divine White is on the wall going up from the landing, but due to the lighting does not show much contrast against the Kilim Beige which in real life is apparent but not shocking. I was really attempting to let you see the distinction between the wall paint and the trim (which you can only see at the landing baseboard against Divine White). This trim paint is actually a Pittsburg semi-gloss latex trim paint. Paint shop recommended it because I didn't want to risk runs. It's a thicker paint and applied nicely. I've discarded the container so unable to offer more specifics. SW trim paint is good too. Personally, I only think of trim being semi-gloss white - maybe I need to think outside the box. Because our space is using three colors in total (SW Latte on some other walls), I purchased a quart of each and applied them side-by-side in several areas to see their effect throughout the day and under artificial light. I know you are restricting yourself to a single color but you might want to invest a few $$$'s and try a similar test because your new residence will have different lighting conditions than your prior home. We're just DIY'ers and need to teach ourselves when taking on projects that pros already have experienced. We like the colors you are considering and am confident you will be pleased with the finished look. Good luck....See Moreseaswirl215
