Does anyone have one of these old wall fans?
Comments (13)Hmmm....I've actually been mulling installing one of these in my master bath, which currently has no exhaust fan. My thought was that it might be helpful to turn on while in the shower in winter or summer when opening the window was undesirable (either for cold air in or letting cooled air out). A more conventional exhaust fan that I could/would run both longer and more frequently doesn't seem essential because, A) the room is large and the bathroom door frequently open, so steam disperses quickly and well. And B) there are multiple extremely old, extremely leaky windows in the bathroom which do an unfortunately good job in ventilating the room! Does anyone know if they have a way to close them off when not in use?...See MoreCorner Tall Cabinet...Does anyone have one?
Comments (37)In the FR against the Kitchen/pantry wall, we plan to put in some tall cabinets of some sort for books and other storage and maybe the TV/stereo components as well as put a 36" desk between them. That wall is 82-3/4" right now (it extends about 4' beyond the kitchen) plus we're adding another 18" or so to that wall for the pantry. That means we will have 100-3/4" to work with. We'll probably put in a 30" cabinet + 36" desk + 30" cabinet, all at least 24" deep. The desk may be 30" deep. That's the plan anyway. However, that will not be for at least a year or two. We need to save the $$$ to do it. But before then, we'd like to put in a DIY Mudroom in our Garage. We need someplace for all the clutter, etc. We might be able to put the Message Center there, but I'm not sure we'll have the room...it's going to be a small Mudroom (we're taking a 5' x 10' bite out of one garage bay to do this...we will still have room to park a car in that bay, but just barely!) So, in the mean time...I guess we'll have to find someplace else. The Pet Center is where we plan to store the dogs' food, collars, leashes, etc. We feed them right around the corner in front of the PR where there is a little setback b/w the kitchen & PR. The counter above is my baking center...I don't think I want to put a phone, keys, etc. where the flour may be flying! My KA Mixer will also be housed in that corner on the counter. [We have 2 standard poodles, around 45 pounds & 55 pounds.] Ruby & Shea (sister & brother) I have just about every counter and cabinet planned out! Perhaps I could put the landline phone & answering machine on the DR peninsula...although, there will be prep sink in that corner and it's pretty far from the FR...I'll have to think some more! Thanks for the suggestions!...See Moresun tubes. does anyone have one?
Comments (28)Wow! This is great information. I've been considering a sun tube for an interior hallway in our house that is really dark. I have a question, though: Has anyone had the tube come down two stories, and how disruptive is it to the walls and ceilings it has to come through? My hallway is on the first floor, and the tube would have to come down from at least the second floor, maybe even the third or attic floor. That dark hallway is under the home's main stairway, so the closest ceiling is above that. If they have to install this thing through walls, can they fit in there without having to create a box or a channel for it? In other words, will it take up more room than there is within the walls? Thanks so much for all this valuable information and the very telling photographs....See MoreDoes anyone have one room painted a different color?
Comments (15)My house is old and tired and trying to be eclectic as I pump life-fluid into it. After living nearly 30 years in various military housing, dorms, barracks, etc., and drowning in shades of "off white," I was ready for C-O-L-O-R when we bought this place. My sewing room/ladies parlor is "Lilac Vapor," a magical shade of lilac. Our office/den/DH's dressing room is Picnic Table red for the bottom 3/4s of the walls, and camel on the upper quarter of the walls and ceiling. The bathroom is stark black and white with touches of deep, blood red. The bedroom is a lighter green, "Safari," and the mudroom is yellow. The living room and breakfast nook will be a sage green, "Key Lime Pie," and the kitchen and hall way (all open to one another) will be a 50% lighter version of the same green. All these rooms have, or will have, lovely crown molding with larger, detailed corner blocks. All the molding, baseboard and trim is white or off white. The bathroom crown molding will be black. DH is in charge of the four seasons porch. I'm sure it will be various shades of brown, barnwood paneling up to the chair rail, and sprinkled with camo. The room has 10 large windows, facing north, south, and west, and a door, so even the brown won't be overwhelming. He does have a good sense of style, just no color sense....See MoreKathleen McGuire
