New foster kitten :^)
Comments (13)Thank you again folks, for your kind words and advice. Hi Lisa! Good to 'see' you again! About twenty years ago, I saw my cat giving birth and had to assist in the delivery. I was fascinated with the way Mongoose cleaned her babies. Our Lil One, as I said, pees like a champ when stimulated, no poop yet. I'll wait until tomorrow. Some other volunteers are waiting for a 'poop update' as well! Anne, Lunabella was the name I once thought of giving to our very first cat here in the UAE - because she was/is a lunatic LOL (sorry I don't mean to imply that your cat is a lunatic). Nice names - Captain Pete! So cute - and apt! If I could keep any more cats, I would keep all my fosters. I do cry a bit before giving them away but at least I know I tried to give them a good start in life. Their forever homes are carefully selected so I know they'll be happy with their new families. DH has taken to calling her 'Kombdi'. It means 'chicken' in Marathi, our mother tongue (one of the many Indian languages). She doesn't drink properly so I've been stroking the top of her head down to the neck as she starts; I remember reading somewhere long ago that it's what mum cats do to encourage them to feed. She seems to go at it a little energetically then - but then gets lazy again. Little stinker! Oh, almost forgot this while talking about Kombdi - I got a job at the vet's clinic. In early 2008 I was super-excited to work with a very well-established vet practice but sadly it was a short-lived association. The vet I'll be working with, knows me from that other clinic - and I know all the staff there as I go there very often to take care of the FF cats awaiting adoption. It'll be part-time, 5 hrs a day, 5 days a week so I'll get time to devote to my five cats and fosters and other FF work. I'm very happy! Keep those names coming!...See Morestray cat had kittens in garage
Comments (13)newhomeseeker, I do not think the mom will keep the kittens in two separate places The first few days a mom cat wont leave her kids for long, but as they are growing, they take longer sleeping breaks during feedings, during which time the mom cat would walk away, looking for food I think the best thing you can do is provide, if possible, a nice waterproof shelter...Maybe since the hay is wet, make another box for her? Mom cats do not want the kittens to be touched much and to be disturbed either....They are protective and paranoid, and reasonably so... Try offering a different box... And feed her really well - she needs extra nutrition. Get some goat's milk (canned is fairly cheap) and offer it to her, and lots of wet food... Get her spayed please, once the kittens can eat on their own! See if any rescue groups in your area do TNR - and if they can let you borrow a trap. Once she is trapped, maybe there are low cost spay neuter clinics in the area? A LOT of vets will give a price break to S/N a feral cat in a trap We are very lucky in Hillsborough County (Tampa, FL) We have a feral cat program and two low cost S/N clinics...Feral cats can be fixed for 10-25 dollars, depending on whether there is a grant available (with grant money, a caregiver pays 10 dollars per cat)...See More2 questions about 1-year-old old kitten
Comments (5)It's entirely possible she ate a little something that didn't agree with her. I have two cats, a 1.5 year old and a 4 year old. The 4 year old has thrown up twice since I got her at 8 weeks and the one year old once. All three times due to something they found on the floor, or wherever, and it didn't sit well. Obviously nothing major as it was only one vomit each time, and they were fine afterwards. The first time my eldest threw up was because she got in the sink and found a tiny bit of chocolate milk in a cup. The other two, I've got no clue what made them sick. Oh, we've also only had one hairball in the last 4 years. Nows a good time to switch to adult, but I wouldn't stick with science diet. There are way better foods, dispite vets recommendations of what they sell at the vets office. I use chicken soup for the soul adult cat, and it isn't that expensive and the quality is a lot better....See MoreKitten question
Comments (4)I got my kitten when she was 8 weeks old, (now she is 8 months, almost a cat!) and the shelter I got her from recommended IAMS dry kitten food. My boyfriend, who works at a pet supply store that also sells/helps adopt pets, recommends the Eukanuba brand. In addition to dry food I give my kitten canned or pouch wet food once a day. Iams chicken and gravy pouches and Puriana Pro-Plan canned salmon and ocean fish are her meals of choice. I also used to give her "Cat Sip" milk which is specially formulated for cats and kittens to digest. (I am sure there are other brands out there too.) I don't know anything about evaporated milk, but my vet told me to never give my kitten regular milk as supposedly it can upset their stomachs and make them very sick. It has something to do with how its processed I think. Even if they love the Friskie soft food, make sure they are eating food that is specifically for kittens. (I have never seen kitten food from Friskies, but I live in the middle of nowhere. Just make sure they are eating something for kittens!) There are certain nutrients in kitten food that they need for growth and development that aren't in food for adult cats. I believe that kitten food also tends to be more fattening than adult cat food....See Moreolyagrove
