Cleaning out old clematis vines
Comments (2)Jackmanii is a type III clematis and should be cut back to within a couple inches of the ground every year or it will develop old thick wood that will eventually be devoid of leaves and all your flowers will be on the top of the plant since it blooms on new wood. The President is a type II clematis but in my zone 7a garden, I treat it as a type III clematis as well since my growing season is long enough that it just blooms later in the season than it would if I didn't prune it. I can even prune it back after its first flush of flowers and get another flush in the fall. In your zone 9 garden, you have an even longer growing season than I do so you can easily treat both of your clematis as type IIIs and whack them back severely and still get blooms. I think it is time to get the pruners out and give those plants a serious haircut. They should come back out within short order. I would treat them similarly each late winter/early spring....See MoreCleaned out the Old Homestead....
Comments (2)Thanks, lorinscott for the quick reply. I have busy unpacking even more boxes and to be honest...Lord only knows what all I have! But it feels like Christmas. On the back of the first plate it says: Hahusan China or maybe it is Hakusan? I only have a few of these with no cups. The second one says"Meito China" Hand Painted, Made in Japan. With this set I have more plates and about 5 cups. The Old Jelly glasses have no markings, but they are in great shape. I have two of each pattern. Regardless, I am not so concerned with worth as I am with 'what do I have since I am clueless'. My Mother (who is 64) remembers drinking out of the glasses, however my Great Grandma kept the plates with her other old china. I have more to take pics of..and they have silver edges and look fancy. My family was VERY poor so I don't think they were ever expensive. I just like keeping them and using them! Thanks, again... Comments (0)My condo was built in 1987 and I can't for life of me find replacement fixtures. My tub/shower has the following: 1 hot/1 cold pipe coming out. These are attached to the typical tub knobs but they are connected, there is a central shower pipe that goes back into the wall (and comes out on top shower head). This pipe is dead center in between the 2 knobs and its fixed. This is different because typically what I see is that the shower/tub switch is somewhere inside the wall but mine is external on the faucet and then it goes back into wall. Now typically these would have a free hose type shower where the water is diverted at the bath faucet but mine is hard wired to go straight back into the wall. Is there any hope in finding replacement hardware or do I need to re-plumb my bathroom? Any places online that might sell this hardware? What's it called? And I'm not interested in repairing seals, this hardware is plain ugly. Thank you for help...See MoreI am trying to sell this old stuff i have i do clean out and the lady
Comments (2)They're called Foo dogs. The value will depend on whether they are original, and what period they are, and what condition they are in. They may be copies, but to my inexperienced eye if they are, they seem to be good ones. It would take an expert to tell. Take them to an antique dealer for a valuation. If you can't get to one, a dealer might be prepared to give a tentative opinion by email if you include a good clear picture of the bottoms of the items. Genuine quality material generally has some sort of markings on the bottom -- although some copies do, too. You have probably seen this page on Etsy: https://www.etsy.com/listing/469949774/antique-chinese-glazed-porcelain-foo?ga_order=most_relevant&ga_search_type=all&ga_view_type=gallery&ga_search_query=chinese%20foo%20dogs&ref=sr_gallery-1-30 Very similar-looking dogs. You could do worse than contact the dealer for an opinion, I think. Good luck!...See Morecoolvt
