Comments (29)halloooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!!!! sorry for the delay! my life is on overdrive! we are trying to raise $425000 bucks in 60 days - whoohoooo! lmao insane but i think it's going to happen! on to judah-bear. crazy little nut-butt has slowed his meowing a bit but still looooooves to be heard. i got feliway spray and i have to say the stuff is great. it has reduced peeing incidents significantly that had started happening. it also calms him (and the other cats) down. so, he is still meowing too much but not nearly as bad as before! :)...See MoreLost our Beloved 20 yo Kitty Tonight
Comments (49)Jan, please try to banish the guilt even though it is natural. In fact about a month before we lost Phoenix, one of her colorado vets who had herself just lost a pet, warned us that guilt was natural, but don't go there. Notwithstanding that advice, felt guilty too, but when I really looked at it, it was guilt caused by the fact that I couldn't make Phoenix better. We tried everything we could think of, acupuncture and cold lazer therapy (which worked well early on) rugs over every wood or tile surface she could slip on ramps made to go up the steps from the bedrooms to the den and down the back porch steps, and a great harness that last month that we could use to comfortably use to pick her up and get her on her feet. To be honest, rationally I know that we probably should have done it earlier, but we thought we could keep her comfortable and there were some things (especially treats) that made her happy. I really think that last day, she told us it was time, because my husband and I reached the decision separately and when we called our housekeeper (a/k/a the dogs' Aunt Mary) she told us that she knew it was time the afternoon before and urged us to go ahead and do it that day. The vet could do it late that afternoon, so Mary came over and gave her some treats and a lot of love, then I left work early to spurn some time with her and pretty some DH came home. Phoenix was already in heaven with all her people around her feeding her her favorite food, but she still had a body that was worn out. At the appointed time we get in to the car. To make the trip to the vetss we got in the car (Phoenix loved to ride in the car especially when I was feeding her ham and cheese the whole way. She even got a lots of compliments on how pretty she was at the vests and she liked that too. So she did have a great final trip we even took her bed so she could be comfortable. The vet explained the process, that she would first get a shot that would just put her into a deep comfortable sleep and then he would come back to administer the fatal shot. It was the first shot that did it for me. She continued eating ham and cheese as her eyes grew heavier and heavier until she was in a deep and comfortable sleep. It was then when I looked at her sleeping so much more comfortably than she had in months, with all the tension in her muscles melted away, I knew we were doing the right thing. I didn't want for her to have to wake up from that peace. Letting her go was the only humane thing we could do....See MoreOT- We Lost a Dear Friend Today
Comments (54)I just found this thread again. Reminded of the pain of losing our sweet Libby, we found ourselves having to say goodbye to another beloved pet just last week. Our precious Boo Boo Kitty made her way to Rainbow Bridge following a year of unexplained weight loss and finally a rare cancer diagnosis 6 months ago. She was a rescue kitty we welcomed to our home in the Fall of 1993. We don't know exactly how old she was when we got her but at least 6 months at the time. She must have been getting close to 17 years old when she passed. We love all our pets and they are each unique in personality and demeanor, but Boo was such a bright, intuitive, affectionate and totally mischievous little soul that there will never be another like her. Always demanding the center of attention, but in such an adorable fashion that no one could deny her. She was the best companion of my husband, who historically was never a pet lover. Yet his heart was won over within the first moments of her arrival to our home, when Boo immediately crawled onto his big chest, wrapped her paws around his neck and began purring her acceptance of her new family. From that moment they were inseparable and shared a lifelong bond of love and affection, mixed with mutual joy as they practiced the art of "play battle". Boo hiding and pouncing on my husband from all possible angles of attack until he would pin her in his arms, smothering her with hugs. As her battle with cancer caused her body to thin, tire more easily and struggle to control normal functions, she still remained our loving, affectionate, ever present companion who continued to insist on being the focus of our attention. She spent long evenings cuddled in our laps, telling us it was ok to just sit and enjoy our time together, the chores and schedules could wait...our time together was limited and thus more precious. We are so grateful to have had the honor and blessing of sharing our lives with our beautiful Boo. The pain of parting is so sharp and intense, we continue to see her in our minds eye around every corner, in her favorite sunny spots and waking us in the mornings with her soft paws upon our cheeks. As much as it hurts now, the years of shared love and memories make it all worthwhile. Someday we will cross that Rainbow Bridge, warmly greeted and surrounded by our precious companions who wait for us there now. Comments (7)A similar thing happened to our pug a few months ago. She was fine in the morning and within a few hours she was completely paralyzed in the back end with some problems with her right front leg. Took her to a neurologist who guessed that the problem was in her neck. Could have been a small blowout or could have been something major. Went back to our regular vet who put her on a muscle relaxer and strong steroids. We also started K-laser treatments on her neck. Within a week she was back up, a little, and was able to piddle by herself. Very slowly she improved and to this day we still do the laser treatments once a month. She's not 100% back to her old self but, she's able to walk. Mind you, it was VERY rough those first few days. Had to hold her while she did her business, set up a padded penned area to keep her safe, held her water bowl and hand fed her, carried her from room to room so she was always in our sight. Today we have carpet runners throughout the house since we have tiled floors. I use carpet runners or small rugs to make paths for her to travel the house. I have objects that I use as steps so she doesn't jump up or down from anything. Most times we lift her up and down. She did have one small set back during this time. We immediately took her back in and did another dose of steroids. If I notice any change with her walking we bring her in for another laser treatment (cost is $22 a session). Don't give up on your baby. A small, and cheaper alternative could be just some medications and the k-laser treatments (google it and see what this is)...See Morejacksonsean05
