Okay, couldn't sleep last night.

During my night long tossing and turning, and random thinking, I remembered that DH had just gotten a new Blackmail Card (I'll rant about that another time--LOL) from his favorite supermarket. Of course, as is usual these days, it came with a card or 2 and a couple of key tags.

Now, I'm not a fan of key tags, anyway. I've been on a mission for years to lighten my key chain. At this point, I have 2--one with just a few keys, just enough to get me out the door and into my car. And another with ALL the keys for everything my husband likes to lock up (I look like a prison warden when I carry that one).

Well, back to the key tags. It occurred to me how dangerous they are. Our supermarket prints your name on your receipt when you use your shopping card. So if you lose your keys--or someone sees that bright tag and lifts them--all they'd have to do is go to the appropriate supermarket and buy something small using the tag. At that point, they'd have your name. Wouldn't be all that difficult to find your address then--and hey, by now they have the keys to your home and car.

I'm still exhausted from a night on no sleep--did that rambling make any sense to anyone else?

You can get the same info from a phone book.
I found a card once and the clerks could not even find the name for it.
I hate those tags too and when CVS pharmacy got them I said no more. I can shop other stores.

Good point about the key tags Azzalea. I don't use them but my son carries them. I save all my receipts until I balance my check book so I have lots of store receipts to check.

The Genuardi's receipt does have my name printed on it so I called the store and the cashier said to call their 800 number to have it changed.

Luckily Wegman's, Shop Rite and Acme do not print the names on their receipts.

I will pass this information on to my son.

if this is wounding them what do I do..?? Almost as though the vine grows uppish and then the heavy leaf weight w the rest of the vine pulls it down to make it bend sharply...is this normal? or does it only happen if it's disturbed/stepped on? should i help it and if so, how? And, and...top right vine, right before it splits, those 3 white nubby wart like dots..what is that?!!

Chris said that he didn't think the So Sweet was a problem. He said it looked like environmental damage. The spots affect about 5 leaves and they are all on top, the sheltered leaves don't show any damage. I think I have photos from late last summer. I am going to see if it showed anything then. This is only it's third year. Chris looked at the photos of the Diamond Tiara(?) from last year and said it looked like HVX to him. He is currently updating his DVD and has been looking at lots of HVX photos. He said if it was HVX, it would usually show up at the first of the season. (An exception would be a really warm spring where the nice temps would help the plant overcome the disease for a little while.) When it came back with the same mottling it had last year, I tossed it. Melissa, that is squirrel damage you see. They dig up the roots and they sit around exposed like that. If I keep covering them, then I'm afraid the crowns will get too low. Almost every pot I have has some roots showing. Do you really think I should keep covering them? Thanks for the help. bkay

Calculating the pH of a strong acid is fairly simple math: pH = - log[H3O+]. But first you have to know the concentration of the hydronium (in moles per liter) to use the formula. 5% vinegar varies in mol/liter depending on the manufacturer/brand because of the differing pH of the water used. I have seen ranges varying from 0.384 to 0.479 and no, 5% vinegar does NOT have an ironclad pH of 2.46. It has an allowed range of pHs from brand to brand depending on the water used and the amount of hydronium ions that can disassociate in that water. Then you have to understand the differences between weak and strong acids. Vinegar is a weak acid not a strong acid so the "simple" formula above does not even apply and if used results in faulty results. You want to base your safety on those erroneous results, fine. Your choice. Most of us do not. Calculating the pH of a weak acid such as vinegar or a weak base (such as water) is a whole different ballgame. It is a quadratic equation that has to factor in equilibrium because weak acids do not completely dissociate in water. Incomplete disassociation = inaccurate # of disassociated hydronium ions = erroneous pH values. You want to use quick and dirty math when canning your pickles, fine. Go for it. But the majority of home canners do not. Especially when the valid math has already been done for them by the food scientists and used to based the guidelines on. Guidelines which also compensate for all the variances in the products and the range of water pH and also compensate for the fact that pH in canning is not stable, it rises over time in storage. So your continued insistence of posting this information when it is not even applicable to home canning serves no purpose except to confuse and mislead.. Dave

I think the treatment might have done some damage. I treated all my plants with neem oil and some other PW spray. Now my Optimara Manitoba is blooming deep purple and some of the blooms on Monet lost the white eyes. Hopefully the next cycle will recover.

It's not on the shoprite slip? I'm sure they've said "Thank you, Mr/s. _______" when we've shopped there. Maybe it just shows on the screen? Even that, though, is TMI, because the key finder can see the screen, if they want to, right?

Yes, this is info that one might get out of the phone book, but if you find a random set of unidentified keys, you wouldn't know which name to look up. With the key tag, it would be relatively easy to find out.

Azzalea - the name might be on your receipts. Shop Right is a cooperative, it's the largest food coop in the US so the stores you shop at might have a different owner and then perhaps a different check out system. I shop at the ones in Delran and East Gate and they have 2 different owners.

I keep my keys in my pocket so keyring tags drove me crazy especially when I stuck my hand in my pocket and got sliced by one of the tags. I solved the problem by putting all the tags on a split ring and adding a clip to hang it from my purse. I unclip the ring, hand it to the cashier and then hook it to my purse again. They are all in one spot and the clerk has to look thru the tags to find the right one. Just my passive-aggressive nature coming through. If all the stores want you to have them, then they can look through the mess to find the right one!

I don't even carry the card or key tag. I just give my phone #. That works just as well.
