I am no expert by far, but I know the programs I have recorded with our Dish Network DVR have closed captioning.

I turn it on sometimes if I can't understand what they have said. It has many features that you can change on the CC - color, size, etc.

I have a Dish Network HD DVR model 621. It was one of the first HD DVR's they had - I know they have newer models out now.

I think you do need Dish Network to use their recievers though.

I can record 3 shows at the same time. Didn't think I would need that, but we use it all the time.

We have a DuoDVR 625 (supplied by DishNetwork). Our DVR works great with closed captioning.

I can't answer your question, but I think a clerk in that dept. could. My neighbor's husband has a huge hearing loss and he uses wireless ear phones. She can set the volume on the TV like she wants it and he can turn the earphone volume up as high as he wants them. Both are happy.

My DH is also hard-of-hearing and he loves having the closed caption. Ours is a Panasonic, but I think rather than the brand of DVR, it is a matter of whether the program has CC. Some of the programs and movies just don't have it. I don't like CC because sometimes they run it right over the most important part of the picture, and I don't read fast enough.

Our TV reception is from Cable.

I have been wondering about checking on one of those devices mentioned by Stargazzer. That way we would not need the TV so LOUD all the time.

Stargazzer, if you ever find out the brand of headphones, can you please post it.

I have a Panasonic DVR and it records closed captioning. I think it shows during playback even if it's not up on the screen as it's recording. I can test it if need be.

Zee....if you don't mind checking out the cc feature on you DVR when not shown on the screen that would be great! as others noted how frustrating it is for those who can't hear programming, as well as, how "darn" loud the volume is for everyone else...I can relate 40 years worth! Now, I have a hard time hearing normal volume because I am so used to it being loud...trust me though...CC has been a life saver. We haven't enjoyed a night out to the movies in years because of this impairment, now it's beginning to affect "going out to eat". Sad, because we miss socializing with friends because of it. Even with state of the art digi hearing aids, FM transmitter for hearing impaired with blue tooth capabilities, this "silent" disorder can be crippling. He does however qualify for VA benefits because of it...I really feel he could possibly retire early and qualify for a ssi disability.

I would think any program that has closed captioning...and most do, although some old movies don't...would also record with closed captioning. We use it all the time and ONLY watch TiVo'd shows. We've been TiVo-ing for 13 years, believe it or not! We have 3 stand-alone units and can transfer from one room to the other. Two of the three also have 2 tuners, so we can tape 2 shows and watch a third one all at the same time.

DH has had the Sharper Image brand wireless earphones for a few years. He says they work well, which makes me wonder why he keeps his tv turned up so loud we have to turn the other tv up in order to hear it over his.

It recorded the cc only when I turned in on from the TV. I couldn't find the option on the remote for the DVR though, so you may have to shop for one that has cc as a feature.

Couldn't find the cc button for the cable box so couldn't test it from there. I have a feeling it will be the same as it is on the TV.
