No. It's overpriced and studies have shown that even organic food can have some chemicals on it. There are no regulations for organic foods, so to me it's a bit of a scam.

It is more expensive here than non-organic food, especially the fresh produce. Plus some of the organic produce looks terrible. I have noticed that some things have an "organic" label or the word in the name of the item but many of them do not have a certifcation to go with it. Don't food items have to be certified organic in order to be sold as such?

So mostly, I buy regular produce and non-organic food items because of the difference in price.

There are no regulatons to call yourself organic. They are far more expensive than regular food.

Our Canadian network (CBC) has a weekly watchdog show called Marketplace. They tested Omega 3 eggs, and the Wonder Plus Bread that has omega 3 in it. It would take over 240 slices of bread to equal the amount of omega 3 found in one piece of salmon. The hens are fed flax in with their regular food to call their eggs Omega. I can sprinkle flax on my regular eggs, for a lot less money.

I don't, but there are probably foods which would be better bought as organic, like strawberries which apparently have more pesticides used on them than some other produce. Another problem is that since organic produce does not "turn over" as quickly as the other, it sometimes looks a bit tired.

No. I don't think it's worth the inflated price. However, I am scrupulous about washing regular produce. No telling what it has been exposed to.

If their celery, spring mix, etc looks better than the non-organic in my local store, I will buy it.....but not because it says 'organic'. Just common sense to buy the product that looks better even if it's a little more money.

Well, I don't spent my money on processed foods (have you checked the price per pound on some of that junk?), so I can occasionally invest in myself by buying organic food.

According to what I've read (and just read again in O magazine), organic beef, chicken, and eggs are tightly regulated. I can't afford the beef or chicken (though I wish I could), but I do buy organic eggs, and I always make sure they're cage free--for the chickens' sakes, not mine.

I eat a lot of romaine, and buy organic when the price is reasonable. I always buy organic carrots because in one store they don't cost much more than the others. I sometimes buy organic beets. I always buy organic soymilk and yogurt.

I do remember when organic produce looked old and tired, but these days, in my stores at least, that has changed. The selection of organic produce is much larger, and the appearance much fresher.

I grow it, I don't buy it.

Like maryanntx and pawsitive, we grow our own. When I buy vegetables and fruit that we don't grow (like celery and blueberries) I simply buy what's on offer, which is usually not labeled organic. The "organic" prices scare me!

I buy organic apples because I think they taste better...more like apples did when I was a kid. I had just about quit eating apples...they were so woody and tasteless and waxed to make them look appealing. Sometimes I buy organic grapes...when they are on sale. I also buy most of my vegetables at a local farm that has a big produce stand (building, actually.)

Oh, yes--I forgot I get organic apples at Sam's Club. Not expensive, and they're the only apples (other than the ones from my trees) that I don't have to peel.

Also, I always buy organic tea.

I buy organic when the prices aren't too outrageous, and hubby and I avoid buying produce from Chile and Mexico. Apparently, they still use pesticides that were banned in the US long ago. From what I've read, Chilean grapes and berries are especially unhealthy. For produce we can't afford to buy organic, we at least try to buy grown in the US.

I buy it because I find it usually tastes better. I also buy from a local organic farm. I am getting ready to plant my first vegetable garden and we will be growing everything organically.

Some things I do and somethings I don't. Carrots I do. Spinach I do. I grow my own lettuce in the cool months, but it is too hot in the summer to grow it.
I also grow a variety of other veggies and all sorts of herbs, but my garden is not big enough to take care of all my produce needs. I do try to eat produce in season and I love to buy things grown locally.

I buy 90% organic and probably 70% of that is locally grown, and isn't USDA labeled Organic, but it's grown chemical free, and only a few miles from me.

I also have a garden and a few fruit trees.

I don't mind paying higher prices. It's worth it to me. However I'm in a Co-op so I get organic produce for the same or better prices than the grocery.

I also pay 3.50 a dozen for pastured home grown eggs. 2 dozen a week. And buy as much beef and chicken that is free range, non stock feed lot as I can afford.

We grow some of our food, and we buy from our local farmer's market. We can and freeze.

I will never eat regular meat or chicken again....not since reading Michael Pollan's Omnivore's Dilemma. Reading about all the chemicals, hormones and medicines that are fed to beef, pork and chicken so that the meat can be fattened quicker to get it to market resulted in our family making a decision never to eat the stuff again.

If you read that book, you will never again wonder why girls mature so early - kids are soooooo loaded with man made hormones these days. You'll also never wonder why humans have resistance to antibiotics - you eat them daily in your meat.

So, yes, we eat organic as much as possible.

kec01, I've read similar stuff which is why I won't touch any meat but fresh caught fish.

Sometimes, if it's available and not too much more than the regular stuff I will. I also grow some of it myself and go to a farmer's market that sells it. Last year I bought some beef from an organic farmer. Was going to buy some organic meat the other day at Good Foods but they were way too expensive. Would love to buy meat without hormones.

I usually buy organic yogurt and kafir and the odd vegetable now and then. I like to grow my own veggies in containers in the summer.

Not intentionally. The list linked above is interesting. Last year, tomatoes were "dirty". Now they're "clean" What a difference a year makes.

There is nothing more important to my body than the food I eat. I have bought organic food for about 15 years. I shop for fruits in season which saves money. I don't know where some of you are getting your information, organic food is highly regulated.
I also use all "natural" soaps, deodorants, toothpaste and cleaning products. I don't like the smell of chemicals. In my opinion it is 100% worth the extra money.
