NOt enough information for even a guess. Are you on slab, or do you have a crawlspace/basement that the piping can run through? Does the space you want to utilize already have a wet wall that contains plumbing? Are you a single floor, or a two story? If two story, what is right above the location you want the 1/2 bath? Are any of the walls that need openings cut into them load bearing? What type of fixtures are you talking? Builder's grade Eljer or mid range Kohler or high end one of a kind art pieces? What type of cabinetry? None? A small vanity? An acre of zebra wood that adds additional storage to the mudroom? What type of flooring/wall covering?

I think the least you could expect using builder grade finishes would be around $3K for fixtures and finishes and probably another $3K for building supplies (copper is very expensive right now, and lumber isn't cheap either.) THe labor to install that would probably run at least $10K to $25K, depending on the answer to some of the questions above. And the final variable will be location. Major urban areas, especially on the coasts, will cost more in labor than will somewhere in the heartland. Some metro areas are double the costs of the "same" remodel in another location simply because of the hassles of dealing with additional regulation and requirements. So, a "safe" range to say would be $16K to $40K with a contingency fund. THe only way to narrow that guess down would be to develop a more specific idea about the project including all of the fixtures and finishes and then shop that same exact spec list out to 3 or more contractors. THe more you can narrow down exactly what the project is, the more accurate the estimates you'll be able to get.

Folding this project into the kitchen remodel might gain you some savings, as you'll have to be dealing with a lot of the same issues for it, and planning and creating the two at once under the same supervision of the same GC would be cheaper in the long run, although not up front. "Average" kitchen remodel numbers run around $27K without any substantial structural or trades work being done. That's for replacement only. Your choices in that arena will also impact that number greatly as well.

I think the poster above gave you a "pricey" price.

I think the costs would be about half that if you were on a slab.

if you have a basement and can reroute the water and pipes, i don't see why the material and labor would be more than 2500 dollars.

i am relocating a toilet from one end of the bathroom to another (a 9 foot run)... i am re-routing the water line for the toilet. i had to rent a core driller to drill through 4 inches of concrete to get to a subfloor. I will have to rent a soil pipe cutter to cut into a drain line.

anyway... my total for materials and rentals will be about 200 dollars. i spent another 225 for a toilet... i had to do some retiling.. another 150... and some beadboard for a wall and moulding...another 50.

i am only giving you those numbers for material costs.

i do agree that you should fold it in with your kitchen...

i think they can really beat you up on price if they have to dig up 9 feet of slab....

anyway, i think you are doing the right thing to get the kitchen you want.

Thanks for the info----that gives me an idea of where to start. I'm not actually sure about the foundation---I'll have to check that out (not really our house yet, still in the process) So I'm hearing that it would be more costly if it is on a slab because it isn't as easy to access the pipes, that makes sense. I was actually just looking for costs associated with roughing the job in because we will be able to DIY on the install of the sink and toilet.

Not a plumber did not mention venting his new install. Your plumbing must be vented if you want the wc to flush and the lav to drain. Nobody wants to hear glug, glug, glug coming from the bathroom. That is why the question was posed 'do you have a floor above?' If so, the vent needs to find its way to the roof. It's probably one of the most common mistakes of a DIYer.

Cheryl brings up an excellent point on venting, and live_wire is a LOT closer to the mark than nat, especially if you're in the end of CT close to NYC.

To re-iterate: NOT enough info to even ballpark it. In general there's a huge price gap between what you need to live cleanly and efficiently, and what you need to impress the Bobo neighbors. ;')

Indoor plumbing was expensive in ancient Rome, and it's still pretty pricey, but hey, IT'S WORTH IT, eh?

How are you planning on venting?

Brickeye..if they are under the International Residential Code and if a watercloset is the only fixture served by the line they don't need a vent.
